SourceForge Demo - 10:00 am Friday 7 February at PWGSC (Location to be = finalized.) **RSVP** Colleagues, In meeting with OPA colleagues Mark Faul and Sara Kerr = yesterday at Bellanet/IDRC, we agreed it would be useful to arrange a = demo of SourceForge.net for anyone with an interest in advancing OPA to = Version 3.0. This would, of course, be open to other public servants = involved in the sharing out or adaptation of software under an open = source business model. http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/opa is becoming the new location of = the OPA project, which since 1999 has been hosted at = http://www.bellanet.org/opa. Please note - Mark and Sara are still in = the process of setting up the new location. Now at SourceForge, the = growing OPA community can benefit from full-featured roles management, = version-management, bug-management, and communications. You may join = the OPA developer discussion list by sending a blank email to = opa...@li... The Architecture & Standards Directorate within GTIP at PWGSC currently = has two other small applications hosted at = http://sourceforge.net/projects/simpleassets/ and = http://sourceforge.net/projects/simpletracker/, created by Jeff Gordon. = For the time being our team is using the fee-free SourceForge facilities = for open source software releases. Other Canadian Government = organizations are hosting their open source initiatives at their own = sites, for example: http://www.crc.ca/FreeWRL/ , = http://www.crc.ca/en/html/scari/home/releases/releases and a Natural = Resources Canada project that is currently orphaned at = http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~rbrook/atlas_gen/. =20 This month the Architecture and Standards Directorate has also begun a = learning pilot using Source"Cast" https://www.pwgsc.inst.collab.net, = which is a more feature-rich environment than Source"Forge". General = info is available at http://www.collab.net/products. Please note that = this is in "kick-the-tires" learning mode, and the site does **not** = meet "Common Look & Feel" requirements. Your team is free to create a = "project" and to play in our SourceCast sandbox, to assist in = determining whether we should propose to invest what is necessary to = adapt a full CLF-compliant environment available for any collaborative = software projects initiated by Government of Canada, ranging from free = open source (like those orphaned GIS tools from NRCan), through to = secure consortia projects. Back to the Source"Forge" session for OPAfolk... I am currently = arranging the session for the morning of 7 February. Details will = follow. Meanwhile, please let me know if you wish to attend: RSVP. = Feel free to forward this invitation to other individuals working with = or for government in Canada's capital, who you think may be interested = in learning about how to collaborate in the OPA project, and in other = Canadian Government open source initiatives.
