It gives me great pleasure to announce Mark Miefeld as the newest addition to the ranks of the Open Object Rexx commiters. In recent months, Mark has made some very significant contributions to the oleobject component of ooRexx, significantly improving the quality of that component. So, in accordance with the ooRexx charter, we're recognizing his contributions by elevating him to the rank of committer, with all of the privledges associated with that rank. Congratulations Mark. A question: Does OoRexx support Execio? I am trying to find a version of Rexx which does in order to code my mainframe stuff on a PC platform. This question should really be sent to the oorexx-devel mailing list, but I will go ahead and answer it here. ExecIO is tied closely to the mainframe environments. ExecIO actually is a rather bizarre concept on Windows and Unix/Linux. This is mainly due to the fact that record IO does not exist on these platforms in the same way it does in the mainframe environment. So translating the ExecIO concepts to these environments involves making some reinterpretation of the ExecIO methods. This almost always causes side effects in the application. The bottom line here is that portability of an application that uses ExecIO is problematic to say the least. So get used to stream IO. That is the future. Thanks, W. Hi all, I have a REXX program that I use to port mainframe application to Windows. It works with ooRexx for sure. It is called EXECPC and you code EXECPC where you would code the EXECIO command. It is one of my shareware open source things, so EXECPC is available for the asking. Below is an ALL /EXECIO/ | /EXECPC/ done in a COPYFILE utility of mine that runs on either ZOS or WXP. "EXECIO * DISKR" CPYDD "( STEM IDSNLN. FINIS )" "EXECIO * DISKR" CPYDD "( STEM IDSNLN. FINIS )" "EXECIO * DISKW" CPYDD "( STEM" STKTYP"DSNLN. FINIS )" RC = EXECPC("* DISKR" IDSN "1 ( STEM IDSNLN. FINIS )") RC = EXECPC("* DISKR" ODSN "1 ( STEM IDSNLN. FINIS )") RC = EXECPC("* DISKW" ODSN "1 ( STEM" STKTYP"DSNLN. FINIS )") /* OS2 EXECIO SIMULATION. */ EXECPC: PROCEDURE EXPOSE PCIONAMS PCIONAMS. PCIO. TXT. OPBFR., IF TRAKPCIO THEN SAY 'EXECPC - EXECPC('ARGSTR') BEING RUN.' SIGNAL EXECPCX /* NO RECORDS IN FILE */ SIGNAL EXECPCX EXECPCX: SAY "COPYFILE - TSO COPY EXEC EXECIO DISKR FAILED ON DSN("IDSN")." SAY "COPYFILE - TSO COPY EXECIO DISKW CMD FAILED ON DSN("ODSN")." SAY "COPYFILE - TSO EXECIO DISKR FOR '*APPEND' FAILED ON DSN('"IDSN"'."
