Chuck - Thanks for your offer, we can use you is you really want to contribute. First, you should join the oorexx-devel mailing list. This is our primary communications mechanism for the development team. You will need a SourceForge ID in order to get full access to the CVS tree. When you have one please let me know and when we believe you are ready we can add you to the commiters list. Currently we are working on two different efforts, a version 3.1 release and a 4.0 release. We hope to have the 3.1 release in time for the Rexx Language Symposium in April, but that is not a firm date. The 4.0 development tree is not available to the public yet and we are a long way from even an alpha release. The 4.0 release will have a number of enhancements including 64-bit safety and new external programming APIs. So you need to make a choice about which one you want to invest in. We believe the future is the 4.0 release, but your circumstances may force a decision on you. In any case, the 3.x version can be exported via CVS and you can take a look at the current code. Be warned, it is not organized very well so it may take some time to come up to speed on it. It is also not safely compiled for 64-bit systems (huge problems there) which is the main reason for the 4.0 effort. That might also affect your decision on which version to work on. So try to digest this info and let me know what you want to do. We can use all the help we can get. Thanks, W. (I'll use Regina until the/a port is completed, but I'd rather use ooRexx.) Even though I'm not the world's best C/C++ programmer, but I can give it a shot. So, how do I get started ? Chuck |
