I'm a bit confused .. file systems are mostly independent of operating systems. You can run NTFS on *ix, and run *ix operating systems on Windows. Or on CM/CMS (SFS). I'm writing DOS FAT onto SD cards attached to an ARM chip with no operating system involved at all. Windows files have create/modify dates and attribute flags. OS/2 files have 65K of attribute data allowed. For most programmers, though. the details of things that are available on some operating systems but not on others are of little interest. But we'd all like copy/move/rename/swap-and-rename, etc., to be available on all systems. :-) Mike |
