The sourceforge Allura system has some very nice capabilities for using markdown in the various contexts.  I've been trying to use this consistently and I'd like to encourage others to start doing this too.  There just a couple of things you need to do:

This one I always try to do.  Yesterday I updated a tracker item where I forgot, thought about it later.

The others I was trying to do, but they didn't seem to work  for me, so I quit.  I probably had the syntax slightly off.  I'll start trying again using this reference.
