There should be a method that will allow a DateTime object to be normalized to local time without requiring a call to date('o') to get local the timezone offset.

    Then there should also be one to set a date time object to the current UTC time. Useful in recording events.

    There already is such a method. The toTimeZone method with no argument returns a .DateTime object with a 0 offset.
