Having done a bit more pondering, just following up my own posting...

The converse of point (2) is that we would only need to ship one compiler,
for any platform, ie we wouldn't even need different builds for different
platforms.

The more I think about this Python idea, the more intrigued I am.

Andy, any thoughts?
