This went through without errors and iMath worked.

Then I removed imath again

sudo apt-get --purge remove imath

and installed the .oxt directly in the extension manager. This gave me the
same error message as you posted.

The reason is that the GiNaC version (on which EQC is built) had an
incompatible version change between Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 16.04.

So I uploaded a new iMath-2.1.4-libginac5.oxt package that works in my
16.04 virtual machine.
