The Project

I created this project after visiting my local library one time. I wondered to myself why they didn't have any content online and so I went and looked for any platforms which they could use. I didn't find any so I created this. The code I generated is a product of what I expect a library to have in its online counterpart. The security design is modeled from my experience setting up the streaming media capabilities for a University. The security currently is designed to block unauthorized users from getting access. At this point all registered users have access. Research on what is needed legality for access rules is needed. Unfortunately due to a bug in the design of the Flash Player where it doesn't have the session cookies from its parent web browser, not all content could not be completely blocked from unauthorized access. In addition to this htm documents are also not completely secured. This is due to the necessity of either processing the document or rewriting the document to use the script for the url of its attached local files.

Project Goals

The goals of this project are the following:
1) To develop a platform for lending libraries to use for delivering their digital content to users.
2) This platform will take into account the needs of libraries.
3) It will address the legal requirements that a library has to follow when lending media to clients.
4) It will be engineered so that the lending library does not simply become a site visited by prospective pirates of Intellectual Property.
5) The web interface will be designed for average end users.
