Common Use Cases

Ultimately there are things we would like to do easily. I would like to make a few videos to demonstrate the solutions to common problems, then hopefully we come up with even easier solutions to these problems. The goal is to make things as easy as possible.

The high lighter

The problem: The user takes a snapshot of some text and wants to highlight an important section of the text, like a marker on regular paper.

The solution: Not completely obvious, but what the user normally wants to do at this point is select the rectangle tool, change the outline of the box to zero. Change the alpha setting to something sensible, between 30-50%, and then highlight their text.

Current Implementation:

The banner arrow

The problem: We want a special arrow that is thick enough to contain our text. Like you might see on a street sign.

The simple arrow solution: Use the polygon tool, without an outline, to create a rectangle like shape, but with 5 points. The last point will be stretched out to create the point of the arrow. This can run into many subcases depending on how complicated you want your arrow to look, truly the limit is the creativity of the user, but we like to make the simple cases as simple as possible.

The outliner

The problem: You have taken a snapshot of a page, and now want to outline something. The problem seems that the instead of everything shape is filled in with a color.

The solution: change the fill color alpha to ZERO. Now the inside is completely transparent, and it can be used as an just the outline.

The comment in the box

The problem: The user would like to place a call out, like they do in comics.

The solution: The answer. Place a shape like a eclipse, rectangle, or polygon on the page with outline set to something like 2,3,4. Disable any alpha settings on the fill color because you don't need any transparency on your box. Then create the text, make sure you adjust it make it fix in your box. After you write your text, adjust the size of the text, or the box to make sure it fits nicely in your box.
