While my time on the project was not long I do still listen and I often ponder how cool an onboardc would be for Android, or the iPhone like devices. Great to see interest in the project still. If there's something you want to do, go ahead and do it. The bug/ issue trackers have a heap of bugs that you can work on if you'd like. I build OnBoardC with PRC-Tools on a Mac. PRC-Tools on Windows should be fine I guess. PODS might work too (I never looked at PODS because it's Windows only and I don't do Windows). If you want CVS commit rights you'll have to register as a developer. There's a "Become a developer" link on the http:// onboard.sourceforge.net/ -- Link |

On 04/02/2009, at 5:34 PM, Lennie De Villiers wrote: > Is Onboard C still being developed on? > Is it still an active project? I would probably describe the project as being on life support. Very little development occurs and most of the devs that used to be involved have moved on to other things. I've probably been the most active developer for OnBoardC in recent history but since it's not something I get paid to do, it has to be fit in around my other activities. I tend to do more app development using OnBoardC (rather than hacking on OnBoardC itself) since I have my phone with me all the time, while my computer lives at home. Don't let the lack of updates scare you off though. OnBoardC is a mature program and while the lack of bug fixing means there are things you may need to work around in your code, it's certainly able to function as a development environment. I use an old PowerPC build of PRC-Tools on my MacBook Pro when I do offline Palm development. I had a zip file with the latest version of OnBoardC (with various bug fixes and enhancements not found in the last official release) on my web site but I moved recently and had to switch ISPs so that link is broken. I'm trying to get it back but since my new ISP doesn't give me web storage it'll take a little while. The link (once it's working again) will be http://ramsay.webhop.org/ OnBoard.zip (this reminds me, I really need to include a changelog that lists the changes in this build from the last official build). -- Link |

Hi again, Since there's a thread on the Yahoo group about features people would like to see in OnBC, I thought I'd start a similar one here, but aimed more at development goals. There are many things I've always wanted to add/improve, but never had time for, so here's a few, (to give you an idea of the sort of thing I meant and) to get the ball rolling: - Test Harnesses/scaffolds/etc that would allow us to test/develop/debug parts of the code base in isolation, on a non Palm platform. (eg stub functions to replace/wrap MemHandleNew and other PalmOS functions etc). This way we could have an automated test suite for parts of the compiler/assembler, and have a better safety net to catch bugs/a regression suite. (eg, some of the Syntax Tree building/code generation etc) - A full test suite/regression suite - A working debugger - A fuller set of tools for debugging OnBC and OnBA, viewing their output, etc - Source Level debugging support, so that OnBC compiled apps could run under GDB, and/or to allow us to build a source level debugger - A decent code optimiser for OnBC - An ARM assembler - Better built in support for adding ARMlets to projects - Generation of ARM assembler from OnBC Anyone else got anythings they wish for? Boz PS - Some of these are already on the task list, some should probably be added, I just wanted to throw some ideas around... |

Hi all, What with the flurry of recent activity on OnBC, my long overdue multiseg changes, and John W's continual and awesome improvements to SrcEdit, I'm thinking maybe we should do a release, in order to get some of these great features released to a wider audience. What do people think? Is there anything else you'd like to see added/fixed before we do a release? As I see it, there are a couple of outstanding things we need before a release - SrcEdit checked into CVS (Ryan's on it, I can help if necessary) - Ryan's other changes submitted to CVS - Any other patches people have been "unofficially" circulating, and which we can get checked in - Any other bug fixes/enhancements that people feel are "must have" additions to a new release Feedback please!
