I'm having trouble tracking down exactly which part of the sparse code in octave is causing the seg-fault, and at the moment have given him a new version of test.m with fflush'es before every fprintf to ensure all messages are flushed prior to the test. I think a similar change should be made in the CVS.. However, this appears to be independent of octave-forge and so I'm not sure it should delay an octave-forge release.
