[OctDev] structure type in .oct files

All:  I am developing a module to allow Octave users
access to ESRI-compatible shapefiles using the
shapelib (http://shapelib.maptools.org/) API.  I have
two questions:

1)  Has anyone already done this, in which case I
suppose I should stop...:)
2)  Can you create struct objects in a .oct file?  If
so, are there any examples of this in existing
modules?
