-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 OCS Inventory NG 1.0 Release Candidate 3 is available for download, except Win32 Server package planned for 2006-07-14. This release includes fixes for all known bugs and the following changes: * An installer for the linux server (tested on Debian, RedHat and CentOS). * Scripts edition will not be mandatory anymore. Every configuration parameters will be included in a configuration file put in apache conf.d (log activation, mod_perl api selection, file validity (in proxies)...) * The three tier architecture is entirely available. A parameter system scaled in three levels will make the communication engine completly independent (Administration console options will override internal options), it enable the use of the engine by other systems without using the Administration console. * mod_perl calls are encapsulated and a single source code is used. On the same way, the tuning of this parameter is available in the configuration file. * The whole architecture is now using Perl standards. It facilitate packaging and installation for other linux distributions. * The architecture is altered to allow easy home made modules development. Adding functionnalities to OCS will only need to write a perl module for linux agent/server and a C++ class for the windows agent. These modules will interact during the "standard" OCS execution flow. (The documentation will contain the source code entry points for OCS modules development). * Auto duplicates merging is now tunable. * Differentials based inventories reduce sql inventory load, and thus increase exponentially Communication Server load resistance. * The database scheme is improved for better performances. * To improve concurrential reading/writing on database and to provide a better data consistency, the default database engine is now InnoDB. * Differential inventory hashes are added to Windows agent along with OpenSSL, it allow digest choosing (sha1, md5 ...) and further security sensitive functionalities (see below). * As the database scheme is linked to server performance (it is not adapted to queries), the Administration console SQL layer has been rewritten to improve querying speed. Big queries are now instantaneous. * Administration console is improved ergonomically and aesthetically (icons ...) * Administration console save all user preferences (columns, language ...) * The "multi criteria" search is also improved (exact match search, unlimited software queries etc.) * Old modules are adapted to fit the new OCS API (ipdiscover, registry...) * A new module is provided: the first version of our automatic software distribution module. It use server authentication based on certificates. It allow files to be put on computers, software installation and code execution. It need a certification authority (we encourage the use of openssl). In small structures, the automatic software distribution system do not need any other computer than the ocs server. Distribution servers must be SSL compliants (authentication) http servers. It also use proxies to save bandwidth. * A package making interface is provided with the Administration console. * Because of security risk using agent automatic updates, we decide to remove this feature to use instead package deployment. * The windows agent is able to run as a windows service (needed for automatic software distribution). With the service, scheduled tasks or logon scripts are not used anymore. The service launch OCS Inventory Agent according to a frequency given by the server and update this parameter dynamically. The randomized launch of OCS will avoid the morning "rush". * Many asked functionalities are implemented: real windows serial number, command line tag forcing, general improvements (CPU speed detection etc.). We would like to thanks Isabelle B., designer, who created all the fabulous icons used in Administration console.
