The first version of Obsidian (non-mIRC-script) is uploaded. Compiled client executable (I bundled the mswinsck.ocx in with it), source of client, and perl server are all available in separate packages. Enjoy.
This time, I'm switching to a standalone programming language. Visual Basic. I know a lot of you probably hate it, but I find it better than mIRC scripting. I'm making quite a bit of progress as it is. I would really like to use perl to make a cross-platform master-server matchmaking system for games.
Home page is up now, I'm about to put the SourceForge button on it. . .
Started over on Obsidian, from the ground up. I have released a demo client, but there's really nothing to see, due to the fact that I haven't released a new server. A-005 is just a login/create account dialog collection for registering with the server.
I am restarting Obsidian from scratch. I have decided it was badly planned and it was hard for me to build upon something that was unstable. The new Obsidian will be very advanced compared to anything you have seen from it before.
Right now, there is no point in me uploading the new client, because there is no point in me uploading the new server. Chances are, the new client needs a server with some extras in it, so neither will be released at the moment.
However, I will tell you that the battle system is getting moved further along. Right now, I am having problems debugging it because all of the bugs in it that are left only show themselves in one way: making the mIRC running the server script hang. When there's no status log for problems, it's very difficult to figure out what they are.... read more
I have good news and more good news.
Good News: I realized what the problem was with the client script -- the commands.mrc wasn't updated. Sorry. So I uploaded it.
MORE Good News: I have working combat on the server script on my computer here. Which means once I get it working with 8 players and 6 monsters and the GUIs made, you'll see it up here.
For those of you just looking at the page, they're not here yet, just give the server time.
You need the server running to get the client to do anything... release notes are available for each, I believe.
Sorry about the lack of updates/uploads, but I've been busy with real life stuff. However, lately, I've gotten some work done. The shop system is being completely redone, however, not like anytime before. I'm doing the entire thing in CTCP and dialogs! What does that mean? Menu driven shopping without what you're doing being broadcast across the channel. I'll have this finished within the next few days and I'll upload it as Obsidian Alpha004. After the shop system is 100% working, I'll make the battle system perfect. Then on to character creation. . .
It says Aug 03 but it's really Aug 11th, I swear it. The files should be available shortly.
...I'm retarded or Sourceforge is, but I can't seem to get any files to show up for alpha002 release. I edit the release and it shows me the file I want, but it doesn't let anyone download it... Maybe it will show up in time, but right now I'm gonna let it be.
Sure, so a script isn't compiled so it's not really a 'build' but that's what I'm calling it. I'm uploading it using the QRS (because I'm lazy) and also sending my mirc folder to Hamled so he can send it to me when I get back to my home in CO. If the file isn't there (it's been taking a long time) then you'll just have to wait but you will see it soon.
Starting initial work on the script today, still a lot of conception to do, while working out details.
