- root lodging - A visual rating measured as percentage, of plants leaning from the vertical due to root lodging i.e. those stems that are inclining by more than 45 (CO_450:0000000:0000017)
- stem lodging - A visual rating measured as percentage, of plants broken from ground level to the top ear node (CO_450:0000000:0000003)

Proposed names and definitions:
root lodging: A lodging incidence (TO:0000068) which is associated with a visual rating of plants leaning from the vertical due to the lodging of a root (PO:0009005).
stem lodging: A lodging incidence (TO:0000068) which is associated with a visual rating of plants broken from ground level to the top ear node due to the lodging of a stem (PO:0009047).
they are not necessarily 'broken'. Plants/plant parts just lodge due to lack/less amount of lignin and other deposits in the stem. Means less sturdy stems would lodge under the impact of high winds if they are too tall. That is why semidwarf varieties were developed.
Proposed definition, 2014-01-14 for stem lodging fits with how maize stem lodging is assessed in some QTL experiments, where breakage of the stem is determined. Plants that lean, without breakage of the stem, seem to be root lodging. See picture of root lodging

Looking at the GRIN germplasm descriptors for maize, they also define a third trait, root lodging caused by insects as an "insect" trait, eg biotic stress, with general root and stalk lodging as morphology traits.

I am not familiar with other types of lodging in other crops - often root lodging comes from a wet growing season (in maize).
IN the ontology, rhe main category might be Vigor or Stature, but these terms can fit other categories as well, eg response to insect stress[biotic], response to wet growing season [abiotic], etc.
