No

Per a request from Palitha. My understanding of the request is his desire to differentiate between female and male inflorescence.

Currently, pistillate flower and staminate flower are narrow synonyms of flower (PO:0009046). Could consider creating distinct child terms for these if needed.

Are you actually wanting to differentiate between a female and male inflorescence (PO:0009049), rather than the flowers themselves?

We already have ones for maize; tassel inflorescence (PO:0020126) and ear inflorescence (PO:0020136), and could perhaps add more general intermediate terms as parents to these.

It would be helpful to know what species you are looking at.

he is looking at poplar species and annotating the transcriptome data.

I think by having following terms as requested would actually help by classifying maize tassel and ear as well.

    -inflorescence
    --isa--pistillate inflorescence (NEW)
    --------isa-----ear
    --------partof--pistillate flower (NEW)
    --isa--staminate inflorescence
    --------isa-----tassel
    --------partof--staminate flower (NEW)

Created the following new terms for poplar annotations:
    - pistillate flower (PO:0025599): A flower (PO:0009046) that includes as part a single carpel (PO:0009030) or a gynoecium (PO:0009062) but no functional androecium (PO:0009061).

    • pistillate inflorescence (PO:0025598): An inflorescence (PO:0009049) that includes as part only pistillate flowers (PO:0025599).

    • staminate flower (PO:0025600): A flower (PO:0009046) that includes as part an androecium (PO:0009061), but no functional gynoecium (PO:0009062).

staminate inflorescence (PO:0025601): An inflorescence (PO:0009049) that includes as part only staminate flowers (PO:0025600).

    ....but no functional androecium (PO:0009061).
    ....but no functional gynoecium (PO:0009062).

Instead of the above statements you can say that

androecium/gynoecium is absent or aborted during development.

right now it suggests that these parts can still be present and can go through their complete development, but with some anomalies in function (e.g. presence of a cytoplasmic male sterile pollen or nonfunctional embryosac is okay in such flowers). Which is not true.

    Added exact synonym: carpellate flower

pistillate inflorescence (PO:0025598): added relation has_part pistillate flower; Added exact synonym: carpellate inflorescence

    Revised def'n:

Is 'adenate' an appropriate usage. Didn't it mean 'fused'?

Adnate means 'fused'. The request for adding adenate as a synonym for "male" came from Palitha, for the poplar annotations.

I removed the synonym 'adenate' from staminate inflorescence (PO:0025601), as we could not find any documentation of it.
