In general, dystrophy refers to any condition of abnormal development (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dystrophy). In the reference - OMIM page (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/omim/611291), it has been clearly mentioned that "DYSTROPHY". Whether this general term can be considered as a synonym of "Muscular dystrophy" (HP:0003560) or not.

Thanks

Dystrophy should not be used as a synonym for "muscular dystrophy". In the article referred to on that OMIM page, the clinical description is unfortunately rather vague.
