right now bashed patches are not visually distinct from other mods. users have no way of knowing that to build a bashed patch, you have to r-click on a particular mod, select Rebuilt patch, etc.

Perhaps we could add a prominent button near the bashed patch mods that says "rebuild bashed patch" or something. This would set the bashed patch mods apart too.

I'm inclined towards saying RTFM on this one. On the other hand, the manual is more intimidating than actually building a patch, and the bashed patch stuff isn't mentioned until about 1/3rd of the way into the wall-o-text.

If we get the readme revamped with a simple, succinct intro for new users, I say leave the interface alone. Otherwise, at least this could maybe clear up the context menu a bit with all the bashed patch choices.

Btw, there is a little visual distinctiveness (if extremely low key) if you look at the context menu. The rebuild options are grayed out on non-bashed patches. A user should see that, and then see that the bashed patch has the words "Bashed Patch" in its name, and see what happens if they right-click it instead. Not exactly the paragon of UI design ;)

Another idea (but potentially a lot of work): add a "Expert" option. Have it disabled by default on new installs, enabled on upgrade installs. When enabled, Bash uses the current UI. When disabled, Bash uses a much simplified UI.

This would allow us to essentially rebrand Bash for newer users and easily keep the existing UI for power users. Aspects of the new UI could be ported over to the Expert version as warranted.

long term, I'm totally for a simplified UI mode, just as you suggest. I'm thinking a single, tabless interface. Package installation on the left, mods on the right (or vice versa for a more OBMM-like appearance), strip out all information panels.

For this particular enhancement, perhaps as a compromise for the short term, maybe just add a distinctive background color the bashed patch mod? Green? (I would suggest bold text, but I'm trying to make bold consistently mean "new item")

Closing this as wont fix - if interested post a bug in git hub - although I really think it's not worth it
