Since i had a crash while installing a mod for skyrim using Wrye Bash, I've been unable to use it. It always crash at startup. I've tried a lot of things including uninstalling and reinstalling it but nothing seems to work. Even the BashBugDump.log file stay empty.

All i can think of is that when crashing during the mod installation, Wrye Bash left behind some kind of file that isn't deleted by uninstalling it, and that this file make Wrye Bash crash on startup.

The only message i get since the log file is always empty is the one in the screenshot attached to this ticket.

I think i figured out the problem. It seems to come with using the mods .bsa files as registred bsa in Skyrim.ini.

I'm using Nitpick (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19556//?) to get past the 255 character limit for registered bsa and so i packed several mods into bsa that i added into Skyrim.ini (Since optimized bsa load faster than loose files and i've already taken conflicts into account by numbering those bsa to get a clear load order). Removing those bsa both from the data folder and from Skyrim.ini seems to have repaired Wrye Bash.

I've tried again installing such mods and i can install them one by one even though Wrye Bash crash after each installation and trying to merge mods into the bashed.esp make it crash every time, but Wrye Bash keep getting slower and slower after each new addition into Skyrim.ini until it keep crashing at startup and i can't launch Wrye Bash again.

Just to be clear, the reason i'm using registred bsa instead of loose file is because i have a large amount of mods with lots of conflicts. Due to this, Wrye Bash sometime takes over 30 minutes just to uninstall a mod while removing a single bsa is done in mere seconds. And several time i also noticed some files left behind when they should have been removed (Probably because of the sheer number of files BAIN as to juggle with). Those files often caused conflicts with other mods and made Skyrim CTD.

I don't know how Wrye Bash handles BSAs difined in Skyrim.ini, but it seems resonable to assume that they are treated different from BSAs with the same name as an esp.

I'll investigate this when I find the time.
