Details:

Headline: OutputConsolePlugin is fragile
Description: the part that extends java.io.OutputStream tends to be fragile, due to the fact that it needs to override one of a set of methods with the same name, and the trickery that involves.  Perhaps that part of the plugin could be re-written in java to make it more robust.
