Headline: dialogs visible by default?
Description: a newly created dialog seems to be visible by default, which causes some (mostly cosmetic) weirdness, because you can end up with an empty dialog, if the code that creates it hasn't set a content pane yet.  Also, it seems like closing the dialog doesn't cause it to be disposed (in both window and desktop mode), which is somewhat annoying.
