Thank you for the comments. It most certainly can be separated!

The current code is XP's idea of a Spike solution, or "Write one to
throw away"--I think similar to what you're doing based on the RI. I
think some of the code will survive, but the current code base is:

1) To get things moving.
2) To give me a strong understanding of the JDO "way".
