OK, for the record, my times from 'build performance' is

ojb : 96.75
jdbc : 65.781

This was on HSQL on a twin Intel XEON 1.4Ghz box with 512Mb Win 2000 SP2
Sun JDK 1.3.1_01.

I also tried against the PointBase java db running in server mode and 
got slightly worse performance (in the order of about 1 second slower in 
total).

I'd love to try the same test through Castor and TOPLink.
