-Welcome to your wiki!
# Welcome to the obdchat project wiki

-This is the default page, edit it as you see fit. To add a new page simply reference it within brackets, e.g.: [SamplePage].
Born in a [thread](http://priuschat.com/threads/86933) over at the [PriusChat](http://priuschat.com/) forums, this tool will not be limited to the Prius or even to hybrids or any particular type of vehicle. The goal is an open-source mobile [OBD-II](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II) view/control app that is not limited to the generic information that all OBD-II readers can display, but can be easily loaded with databases of the manufacturer-specific information for particular vehicles.

-The wiki uses [Markdown](/p/obdchat/wiki/markdown_syntax/) syntax.
Those databases tell a reader how to query the car's computers for important information a generic scanner can't see, for example, battery and electric drive conditions in a hybrid. Since manufacturers have so far been backward about providing that information to the people who own their products, several communities of owners have pieced it together for their cars with great effort. Another goal for this project is to provide a common format and a repository where those efforts can be shared.

So, this is a project with two related parts:

  * [MobileApps], which can't help being tied to specific mobile device platforms, and
  * [VehicleDatabases], usable on any platform by any app (doesn't even have to be ours).

The project is open source under the Apache License, version 2.0: [LicenseDetails].

You may want to look at (or contribute to) the ProjectHistory?.
[UsefulLinks] contains info on some hardware devices and other OBD-II projects on sourceforge.
[WishList] is self-explanatory :-)

These wiki pages are where to find, suggest, haggle out, etc., everything we know about the project. The wiki here is Trac, which is described below. Certain useful prefixes have been added to [InterMapTxt] to allow linking to PriusChat threads and posts, Android SDK documentation, etc.; check [InterMapTxt] for the whole list.

## about Trac

Below is an intro to the Trac wiki/tracker; it is not specific to the obdchat project. :-)

Trac is a **minimalistic** approach to **web-based** management of **software projects**. Its goal is to simplify effective tracking and handling of software issues, enhancements and overall progress.

All aspects of Trac have been designed with the single goal to **help developers write great software** while **staying out of the way** and imposing as little as possible on a team's established process and culture.

As all Wiki pages, this page is editable, this means that you can modify the contents of this page simply by using your web-browser. Simply click on the "Edit this page" link at the bottom of the page. [WikiFormatting] will give you a detailed description of available Wiki formatting commands.

[TracGuide] is a good place to start.

Enjoy!
