    Michael Izban - 2018-12-25

    Hello,

as the german translation of nyagua 5.1.5 is faulty/buggy/incomplete i tried to correct this for my program-version. I therefore use Kate, a linux-editor, and ark, a linux-archiver, for extraction and reinserting the edited file

In the .jar-archiv i edited the Bundle_de_DE.properties - file and changed several values. After reinserting the changed file all worked fine.

However i cannot reach all terms, i would like to translate, for example the invertebrates-heading and history-heading and some other terms.

Can there be found an overview about the program-structure or particularly all the terms in the DB-Mask?

Merry christmas and a happy new year to all readers and thanks a lot for reading und of course for the program.

    Bye.
    Michael

P.S. After finishing i of course make this translation available to the developers, if there ist interesting.

    Hi Michael,
Thank'you for your effort An dexcuse me for delay in answer (I was off-line for Christmas holidays).

The file you're editing is the right one but, as you've seen, is incomplete.
The base file for translations is Bundle.properties in the same directory. This file contains all the keys and can "reach all terms". You can add to Bundle_de_DE.properties the missing keys and I think you will be able to translate everything.
There are some (free) utilities that can help you in translating by taking in account all the keys from base file and showing you missing therms (just search linux i18n tools in google and chose one).

I know that translation keys are poor on logic. When I started to translate I used Netbeans internal tool to decide keys. This generated an irrational and messy bunch of keys that I'm still cleaning after years :-)

You can identify keys looking at source code or simply asking me . You can use my p.m. that is reported in my site (see http://rudigiacomini.altervista.org/contacts_en.php ).

Another way to get a correct translation is the one suggested in (http://nyagua.sourceforge.net/translate.php) using Transiflex. Usually if a translator writes to me that the work is complete I get him/her back the compiled file in a day or two for check. And after the ok I publish it in site with the name of contributor.

If you have any further question don't hesitate to ask me. I ask you a little patience for delay in answers in these days...

    Best regards,
    Rudi.

    Hi Rudi,

thanks for Your response. During the next days I will go on with translation according to Your Hints.

What i see is, that in the Aquarium-DB the shops are not saved in the database. I think this is an alphanumerical field (text)? Same with the Type-Field...

Tonight I will download an english version to see the differences.

    Thanks til next time
    Michael

P.S: I've to stop now with writung, as my cat sits again and again on the keybboard... :-)))

    Hi Rudi,

    an aditional short info:

On Linux (Plasma) translations are done via poedit, a program especially for translating UI-Software, but this doesn't work with java-prgs., as i found out... So i do it one by one with a text-editor, what is working pretty fine.

Die mentioned "not-saving" of data is only a "handling-error". Sometimes one misses the forest for the trees...

    Bye
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
I'm well aware of the difficulties of some programs in manipulating .properties files.
Mainly problems are due to the UTF8 format used from java files...

This is why I tried to solve with a web translation service. No tools to install, less format issues :-)

    Bye,
    Rudi.

    Good morning.

I think, for the beginning the german translation is ok now.

The file bundle.properties with the complete german translation can be found at

It has a date-extension (for checking version), which has to be removed before using the file.

I removed all other Bundle_xx_XX.properties-files from the Nyagua.jar-file and found no problems doing this. Nyagua works without errors.

With ark (Archiver) i extracted the jar-Archive, edited/translated the attached bundle.properties with kate (Editor), removed the original Bundle.properties-file and inserted the translated.

As far as i can see, everything works fine, everything is displayed in german, only some single terms have still to be changed, but were not in the bundle.properties-file.

I have some questions of understanding about the program itself. This are the first ones:
(Excuse please for asking You wholes into Your stomach...)

On several positions the term "ppm" is used, but i think, mg/l would be more significant and meaningful. But i don't know, wether it is functional correct to simply change the term...

In the attached recipes there is no PO4. Why?

In the Masks is a field "environment". Is this for the Living-area? Were can be done data-inputs therefore.

Is it possible, to split the table-headers and datafields in the db-screens into two lines, as the content often can be very long and the complete table cannot be viewed on a 1920x1280-resolution-24"-Monitor...

On the other hand the picture-field at fishes, plants and invertebrates could be some bigger...

The web-search works apparently but inserting of the found data doesn't work. The pictures on fishbase.org are not recognised. Pressing the select-button has no noticeable effect.

On my computer i configured the Desktop-window-panel (OpenSuSE tumbleweed Linux-Plasma newest version) to automatically disappear after a few seconds. This doesn't work with running java-programs. I don't know why.

So far til now. I find the program very useful and hope, that the development doesn't stagnate. Most other aquarium-softwares look more lika a toy than like a (this) tool.

    Thank You for Your work.

At last i wish to all of You a happy and successful new year.

    Bye

      Hi Michael,
Lot of question for the first day of the year :-)
Before starting with answers I kindly ask you if you can send the file via mail or via some file transfer service. Downloading it from web usually changes the format and the result is wrong chars. Alternatively please zip it and send me link so the browser will download it.

Another point before the answers: tomorrow I'll be back at office so in lunch time I'll fix some bugs that has been reported to me and I 'll test the translation.

      Back to your questions:

On several positions the term "ppm" is used, but i think, mg/l would be more significant and meaningful. But i don't know, wether it is functional correct to simply change the term...
ppm is the measure unit usually used in forums in aquariology for chemicals. For water, 1 ppm = approximately 1 mg/L (see: https://cfpub.epa.gov/ncer_abstracts/index.cfm/fuseaction/display.files/fileid/14285).

In the attached recipes there is no PO4. Why?
?? I'm unsure in what means 'attached recipes'. There is plenty of PO4 solutions in some fertilization methods but not in some other. I know that fertilization calculator is hard to use (I hope you has read the manual :-)

In the Masks is a field "environment". Is this for the Living-area? Were can be done data-inputs therefore.
This is a common mistake: you can use each field to write any thing is meaninful for you. Nyagua has a little of specialized fields so you can use a field for anything you want...
Most of fields come frome fishbase so you can refer to theyr use. For me environment means the biotope where specie lives.

Is it possible, to split the table-headers and datafields in the db-screens into two lines, as the content often can be very long and the complete table cannot be viewed on a 1920x1280-resolution-24"-Monitor...
This is an error introduced from my lazy programming. Usually in this kind of view the data table show only some summary fields (used to identify the row and the item) then you click and show all fields in detail. I'm showing all fields in the order they are on the DB but they are not intended to be view on the table. Splitting the table requires a lot of code and I prefer to rewrite other pats of the program instead. This because the time I can spend on the program is no more that 2-4 h/week... so programmers are welcome :-)

On the other hand the picture-field at fishes, plants and invertebrates could be some bigger...
Yes this is one of the parts I want to rewrite. But there are pros and cons. The image are saved on the DB and bigger images means a less portable DB. Near that I have not yet verified DB limits,..

The web-search works apparently but inserting of the found data doesn't work. The pictures on fishbase.org are not recognised. Pressing the select-button has no noticeable effect.
I hope I can fix it in next days. Every second day fishbase is changing something in the format of data and this is breaking Nyagua. I don't want to remove this feature but I'm always spending time in fixing it :-(

On my computer i configured the Desktop-window-panel (OpenSuSE tumbleweed Linux-Plasma newest version) to automatically disappear after a few seconds. This doesn't work with running java-programs. I don't know why.
I can't figure out what is happening in your SuSE. I always used RedHat (now Fedora) and in my PC plasma is working well even with Nyagua or Freemind open... Maybe your plasma detects some activity when java machine is up...

      > So far til now. I find the program very useful and hope, that the development doesn't stagnate. Most other aquarium-softwares look more lika a toy than like a (this) tool.
Well I know that I'm not running so fast in developing Nyagua (some stop and restart) but at now I'm working on it from 10 Years and I don't want to stop. I've just added some minor features to a new version and I'm working to complete fertilization plan feature.
As I write before at now I've less time to dedicate to it that in the past and I'm still waiting for any kind of help. I've fond many translators but no programmers or web designers so I must to mantain the development, the manual and the site.

So your help is really welcome and I hope we can work together in time. As you've seen translation is very low in time consuming and usually there are no more that 20 sentences/year to translate so the effort is minimal :-)

I'll update you in next days.

By now I wish you a Happy New Year :-)

      Rudi

    Supplement:

This is a hardcopy of a fish-db-screen. As can be seen, the monitor is not big enough - buying a new one would be a solution, but only the second-best... ;-)

Reducing the width of a big field, you cannot see the content - also not very helpful.

The much better solution i think would be to split lines, e.g. with more than 20 or 25 characters in 2 or more lines...

    Bye now.
    It's time for meal...

    Thanks for the fast response.

    The packed version:

    http://michelsburg.eu/diesunddas/nyagua/Bundle.properties_20190101.tar.bz2

Today I started with translating the English manual. As this are some expressions more than the program, this will last some more days. Additionally the inserted screen-hardcopies should be replaced by the ones of the german version...

In the german Aquarien-Forum a user somewhere found Your software and ist probing around with it and opened a thread...

    Hi Michael,
Thank you for your work. I've checked your file and it translates everything in version 1.5. If you have a little bit of time I can send you the file for new (1.6) version that contains 11 more sentences...

If you need help to undestand my (bad english) please ask.
Now I'll go on resolving the fishbase import bug :-)

    Thank'you again.

P.S. Please let me know if you like to appear in contributor list (some people doesn't want this so I ask every time) and (in addition) if you like to publish an email for contacts...

    Hello Rudi,

    i hope, Your new-year-party was tolerable. :-)

I've never time. Everything is a question of priorities...
Of course you can send me the V1.6-File.

"I'll do my very best..." ;-)

My English is certainly not the best, but til now i have no problems understanding You. It results from school more than forty years ago and gets refreshed only by reading datasheeds, manuals, websites and so on. It would be much better to have the opportunity to speak, but...

If You want, You can insert me in the list. My email-adress is usually on several pages as a jpg., so spam-bots cannot find it. The amount of unwanted emails is big enough...

Now i have to comfort my two housemates, a in between very old German Shepard Lady and a Cat, they both had to suffer again a lot because of the New Year's Eve fireworks. Especially the dog is nearly dieing of fear every Year. That then lasts several days until she has forgotten this horror.

So i wait for Your V1.6-file and continue step for step with translating the manual. This is very much work but i think it is very important, to offer it in the respective national language.

    Bye, have a nice time
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
No new-year-party for me - I'm quite old aged for parties :-)

I can share with you my lack of time. Work takes me at least 13 h/day (including travel), my family ask for the rest so finding time for "hobbies" is always a pain :P
Anyway we have no dead-line to do changes in Nyagua so any little piece of contribution is welcome and well accepted.

Here in attachment you can find latest version of german properties file (1.6). As you can see I'm adding some customization to presets on lists...

    Bye,
    Rudi

    Good evening.

Enclosed the translated new File. As You now, there are sometimes different meanings for the same expression, so that the right translation can be evaluated in the context of the software. Because of this i will check my translation again after publishing of the new version and make corrections where necessary.

Don't work too much. 13h are a lot too much. 4 Years ago i became a very massive hint from "the chief of everything"... After dieing twice and reanimation I survived only with a very big lot of luck and without remarkable consequences. This experience must not be done by anybody. Since these times i reduced working to a minimum level.

    Bye.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
I'm attaching here v.1.6 of Nyagua. All features added by now are complete so you can back-up your jar file and replace it with the attached one.
    It includes:
    Currency format in prices,
Presets for expenses and maintenance (you can enable / disable them in preferences)
    Table headers bolded
    Your german translation (with credits)

Please take a look if everything is ok and I will update all distribution...

On work hours I agree at 100% and I'm sharing your life philosophy but at now I work as developer far 100km from home. The travel and work take me away from home for almost all day :-(
Hope in a better future :-)

    Rudi.

    Hello Rudi,

attached the again edited Bundle_de_DE.properties-file and a picture with two screen-hardcopies.

I changed two words and it now looks good, but there is one error, i couldn't regognize:

Die "degree"-sign is the little offset circle, which follows after the value (23°C, 10°KH, 15°dGH)
In this example the first term is a temperature, the second one is a carbonate hardness and the third is a total hardness. In all screens of nyagua 5.16 with carbonate hardness or total hardness there is a Ä in front of the "degree"-sign (see attached screen-hardcopies). I couldn't locate the position of this error and therefor couldn't correct it. At this position should only be the "degree"-sign without the Ä.
In V5.15 this error doesn't appear.

And finally i noticed the following:
If on the main-screen You select f.e. sheduler-database from the left sidebar the corresponding tab on top tabs changes its colour to scheduler-database too. But if You select from the top-tabs, the colour on the left sidebar doesn't change it's colour from the last to the new selected item.

The version-number in the about-topic of the Help-menu is still 5.1.5 and didn't change.

    Well, so far for today.

    Bye til next time
    Michael

    One thing:

English-manual is 49 Pages long, index goes til side 57... The reason is maybe the page-splitting of the sides. I hope it's ok, when i use the existing sides and correct the index of the german translation.

Perhaps it is possible to change the terms 5.0 or 5.1.5 or... to a consistent V5.X

    Bye.

    Hi Michael,
    Sorry for delay in answer.
Here in attachment the new version: I've added your translation, fixed degree char and updated the version.
If possible please check it for last time...

About manual the error is due to a formatting change that was born when I moved from a multifile structure to a single file in an aptent to use same source files both for pdf and site.
At the end I missed to refresh index.
I can share with you sources if you like (they are .odt or .html files)...

    Hello Rudi,

there still were 2 terms, where the translation was not "waterproof", so that i also changed them.

But now i think it is a "masterpiece". ;-))

I testet a little with my data and found everything is o.k. now.

Attached again the finally changed Bundle_de_DE.properties.

    Hi Michael,
I'm unsure if now is everithing ok.
Comparing this file with mine I've found again all wrong chars near degree simbol. It seem that your editor is someway changing UTF notations...

Anyway here is the result :-)

    Hello Rudi,

thanks for the new version. I didn't have these errors in the old version and don't have in the new version.

To prevent this i will change the editor. So far i used kate, a pure asci-editor in the linux-kde-/plasma-environment, from now on i will use bluefish, an editor-monster with unimaginable many features (, which maybe nobody needs)...

This is the very first time, i've problems with multinational character-sets. This is remarkable, because i use linux since 2001 exclusively and til 2001 together with windows.

But now, when i know this, i can have an eye on this.

    Bye
    have a nice weekend
    Michael

  • Rudi Giacomini Pilon

    Hi Michael,
I'm still unsure if those issues are due to Linux (well with Windows the problem was bigger) but I've had same issues in the past.
It seem that moving those files in and out Netbeans causes them to misunderstand UTF codes.
Anyway I'm doblechecking them everytime so I can solve this issue.

If the result is looking ok I can go on publishing it. I'll only take some days (this week) to verify if I'm able to solve (at least partially) the issue with fishbase.org.
I'd like to publish the fix togheter with your tranlation...

    I'll update you ASAP.
Thank'you again for all your efforts ,

    Hi Michael.
I've received two notifications, about two post from you, from the system. I can't find them here in discussion but they was about missing fields on Fish table. If you have really this issue please let me know. I've rechecked all fields and they seem to be ok.

About credits I've already added your name in Nyagua (Please check menu /About/credits if there is any mistake). Not yet added in distribution (txt) files and in the site. Usually I update distribution files at last moment (to include all changes) and site is updated after release (so I can update news, version, credits, etc at once).

As I've explained I'm testing fishbase import in order to fix it but if this will require too much time I'll temporary disable it.

    Bye,
    Rudi.
