    TychoBarfy - 2008-09-21

    Hi, Tomzo

Today I looked into my Acquisition timescales and was wondering, why the window was so high.
When I went into Select Providers, I saw two additional "network entries", which haven't been there before.

"BR ATRTN24P" -> Name of service "NexTView DE"
    List of networks
    "Pro7, ARD, ZDF, RTL, SAT.1, BR3, HR3, NDRSW BWWDRMDRRBB Br3satVIVA, Kabel 1Super RTL, V, OXRTL29LiveDS, FEur, osportKiKaAr, ten-tvtvtvORF2RBB BeMTV, BR ATRTN24Phoen, ixTele5e
    set help_winsize 74, 4x445"

"text_f" Name of service "Some crasy characters"
    List of networks
    "IIP/, 6d, ^ , dP, s}!s}^8IIINexTView DEPro7, ARDZDFRTLSAT.1BR3HR3NDRSW,  BW, WDR, MDRRBB Br3satVIVAKabel 1Super , RTLVO, XRTL29LiveDSFEurosportKiK, aArten-tv3
    set dumphtm, l_hyperlinks 1"

When I deselect those two providers in Merge Providers, the window hight in Acquisition timescales is OK and only those networks are listed, which I have selected.

when I remove the nxtvepg.ini and start and configure nxtvepg again, these two providers mentioned above are there too. So I switched back to my old nxtvepg.ini.

    Otherwise NexTViewEPG 2.8.1pre2 works well.

Forgot to tell, that I didn't select all four providers. I only selected Kabel 1.
The other three providers including TV5 were selected by the application automatically (?).

Kabel1 currently has once again severe problems with missing teletext packets and pages. In these cases nxtvepg is trying to assemble Nextview EPG packets from fragments of different blocks. Since the forward error protection in Nextview EPG isn't very strong this may sometimes result in garbled output.

However errors in control data such as the provider ID should still be fairly unlikely. I haven't seen anything similar yet. Maybe just email me the database files just in case it's a bug in nxtvepg. Otherwise, to get rid of the providers just perform an EPG scan in the "refresh only" mode. This gives you an opportunity to delete both the database files and all traces of these providers in the configuration file.

By the way, I just uploaded a new pre-release 2.8.1pre3 which is a release condidate for 2.8.1. I'd appreciate any feedback on this pre-release: http://nxtvepg.sourceforge.net/pre-releases.html

      Thanks for the new version.
      Works fine.
An EPG scan in "refresh only" mode didn't delete the two other entries.
OK, let's wait until Kabel 1 brings good packets again.

      One last question.
Since yesterday nxtvepg doesn't auto-exit anymore, when I exit K!TV.
Where are the settings for this behavior?

        > Works fine.

        Thanks for the feedback.

        > An EPG scan in "refresh only" mode didn't delete the two other entries.

No, but you get "Remove this database" buttons in the output window for providers which could not be reconfirmed. Then click on these.

        > Since yesterday nxtvepg doesn't auto-exit anymore, when I exit K!TV.
        > Where are the settings for this behavior?

Isn't there some Nextview related menu in K!TV? Sorry, but I haven't booted MS Windows in almost a year so I'm no help in Windows related issues. I'm pretty sure though they simply call "nxtvepg -remctrl quit" which you could also invoke by other means.

Starting scan on 3 known channels
      Channel #1: CNI 0x2FE5 TV5 (France)
      checking for EPG transmission...
Nextview EPG announced in "Bundle Inventory", but no data received
      Giving up, try again later.
Provider 'TV5' not refreshed, but database OK.
      [Remove this Provider]

      Channel #2: CNI 0x0D92 Kabel 1 (Germany)
      checking for EPG transmission...
      Provider 'Kabel 1' is ok.
      Channel #3: CNI 0x0D92 Kabel 1 (Germany)
      checking for EPG transmission...
      Provider 'Kabel 1' is ok.
      EPG scan finished.

      Summary:
      2 provider databases confirmed
      1 database not refreshed
0 of these are defective or missing
      --------------------------------------------------------------------
As you see, I can only remove TV5.
After removing this - because I really don't need it - I still have those two obscure provider entries in Select/Merge provider/s.

I changed three independent issues to improve the behaviour:

1- Added consistency checks for incoming "inventory" data blocks to catch at least some cases where the block checksum fails to catch transmission errors (i.e. there's still a chance that "ghost" providers are created, but the probability should be a magnitude smaller now)

2- Extended the EPG scan to include defective database files and providers with unknown TV channel frequency, so that a "remove provider" button is included for these too, although not actually scanned.

3- Fixed the "refresh mode" scan to include a match between found and expected providers so that a "remove provider" button is added for "ghost" providers which don't match the ID of the actually transmitted EPG.

Additionally I fixed a few bugs (introduced in 2.8.0) which caused database load errors and missing provider frequencies not to be reported to the user.

As always, thanks alot for the feedback. I'll upload a new 2.8.1 release candidate soon, after additional review and testing of the above changes.

No I removed all *.epg files found in nxtvepg folder manually.
There were nxtv0d92.epg (the aktive one) and two other files (inactive and old)
      nxtv40bc.epg, nxtve07a.epg.
I made a new scan and after this everything is OK again.
I only have Kabel 1 in my "Select provider" window.

I see, display and behavior of acquisition processes in "View coverage timescales" looks a bit different now.

May be you should make the window "NexTView acq. timescales" scrollable.
There had been added some more Channels in Kabel 1 and so the window now is too high.
Even if I make my task bar invisible, I can't see then whole window, status bar respectively.

        This is implemented in pre-release 2.9.0pre1: http://nxtvepg.sourceforge.net/pre-releases.html

      Sounds good...

Please could you take a look at the "View coverage timescales" / window "NexTView acq. timescales" scrollable issue 3 post above your last one?

I've released the three improvements for the database "refresh" mode in 2.9.0pre0 today.  I didn't include them in 2.8.1 because this would have added further delays to the release which was long overdue anyway.

        Thanks again for your feedback.

I'll check if there's an easy way to improve this in Tcl/Tk. I'm currently working on more fundamental issues though, such as getting the teletext grabber out of beta.

Sorry, no bug and no new thread.

If I disable the "Tune TV" button in "TV app. interaction" dialog, also the "Tune TV" button in the reminders popup window is disabled.

Would be good if I could only disable it's visability in the browser window by checking this in "Configure -> Show/Hide -> Show Tune TV Button". So my vertical place in the filter list would be a bit bigger. I usually don't use this button.

This is now implemented in pre-release 2.9.0pre2: There's a new configuration option in the "Show/Hide" sub-menu. It was a bit tricky to add this feature, as the visibility was already controlled by attaching a TV application. In the end I decided to remove the automatic control and leave it to the user entirely. When no TV app. is connected, the button will simply appear greyed out.
