Hello, my name is Joey Adams, and I'm introducing myself to the
mailing list. I'm a high school graduate, I'm fluent in C, and I'm
decent in C++. I haven't done any kernel programming, but I've done
some basic embedded stuff (68k assembly and C for the TI-89 with
TIGCC), worked with the standard C libraries, learned some Xlib, and
done a little Qt. I have a PC from 2002 running Linux (Fedora,
Ubuntu, and Debian multi-boot), an old 90MHz Compaq laptop with a
chipset that was abandoned by XFree86 4 and up (Cirrus Fusion 7543,
works with vesa, but slow) that I tried to write a driver for but
didn't know what I was doing, and an iBook G3 Clamshell that runs
Fedora 9 decently.
I also have a Power Macintosh 6100/66 (Nubus) with 24MB RAM, 500MB
hard drive, a SCSI 44MB removable hard drive reader/writer, and a
Crescendo 266MHz G3 accelerator card. I installed Debian Woody on
there less than a year ago, and it works fine, X, networking, SCSI
removable drive, etc (except the CD driver seems to have bugs and the
G3 accelerator doesn't work at all (unless I don't know what I'm
doing)). I use MkLinux to run it, but the latest miBoot bootloader
managed to also boot it (until crashing a little after getting to the
I tried pulling the 2.6 kernel from CVS and compiling it, but on my
Nubus machine, it said "Warning: Architecture Unsupported!" or so.
Anyway, if anybody needs testing on this kind of machine or needs me
to compile PPC packages with my iBook G3, I'll be happy to help in
that way :)
sorry, for getting back to you that late.
I've been on vacation for four weeks and this is one of my first days
Currently it seems that all developers of this project are busy with
other things. You are most welcome to get used to the code and try
getting it to work :)
The 2.6 branches are not working at all on nubus machines, yet. I got it
to somehow work on a PowerBook 1400, but didn't continue to work on it
since spring time. Please see the list archive (msgs in 2008).
The code sections for your type of nubus machine is currently disabled,
that's why you're are seeing that message about unsupported architecture.
For myself I really like to continue this project. I'm quite busy with
taking care of our new flat. I know there will be some time left for
nubus Linux in the future.
Please report all findings, problems to the mailing list.
