Hi, I have debian guest with NAT on virtualbox and am able to use browser NTLM auth fine to browse internet. I though am unable to get apt-get, wget etc. to work. I thus installed ntlmaps on debian and did all configurations but it does not seem to be talking to parent proxy and working. I tried to set DEBUG options but where are the files generated ? if any one has done such setup please point me to blog or guide. python 2.6.6 debian squeeze kernel 2.6.32 ntlmaps stable from debian archive installed using apt-get from internet connection that allows it Regards, Miten. |

Hello, first of all. I would like to congratulate to developers of this amazing program. Really, 2 days ago I was really stuck because my python program could not connect to internet via a NTLM proxy (why MS invent this things?) I'm using '0.9.9.0.1' version. but I've a little thing, It is that in MS Windows open a black window (with ntlmaps version and copyright) and it is opened all time I would like to make NTLMAPS running as a windows service (in services.msc) but it is no easy to do it. A lot of package and modules and py2exe never gets all of them and has problems. I haven't python interpreter on client's computers (And I will never have :( ) So I need to make a standalone ntlmaps. If someone has something about this, I will really thanks. I made an exe with this version, but I can't make a windowservice one. I still trying to compile it, if I have some advance I'll let you know. Thanks in advance matigro -- http://www.linkedin.com/in/matigro |

Hello, I'm trying to get ntlmaps working against my company's new proxy. Without ntlmaps, I'm able to surf in firefox, after authenticating via the challenge that pops up. However, when trying non-ntlm-authenticating apps, for instance, wget, I can't download files. Therefore, I installed and am trying to configure ntlmaps, but I'm having a hard time. I'm including wget output, three ntlmaps logging files, and my server.cfg. Hopefully, you'll be able to spot the problem. Thanks, Jamie |

Hi,
Thank you very much for giving the reply.
Kindly tell me why NTLM is allowing during recording? That time also it need security. Am I right?
Also tell what is the basic difference between recording script and replaying script through NTLM?
Thank you.
With Regards,
Suvendu

The replays will of course fail, as NTLM is designed to disallow
replays (it would be a security vulnerability if replays were
allowed). If you must replay a session, you.ll have to do so with an
unauthenticated session, or figure out how to strip the 407 response
and subsequent requests out of your stream before replaying it.
Thanks,
Matt

Long-overdue, I've spent the day preparing an ntlmaps v1.0 preview. This includes 0.9.8 plus all the patches from the patch tracker plus other assorted cleanups. But before I tag it as v1.0, I'd like someone, anyone, else to give it a whirl and report success/failure. http://ntlmaps.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ntlmaps/trunk.tar.gz?view=tar has what's available up-to-the-moment in the SVN tree. I've looked into producing a Windows installer, however, the easiest Windows build of Python, from ActiveState, requires an OEM license to be able to include portions thereof in a release. Or that's how I'm reading it so far. If this is true, I'm not going to post a Windows EXE or installer, to the SourceForge site. I've also cleaned up the feature request tracker a bit. You must be logged into SourceForge to be able to post new feature requests. Thanks, Matt |

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Activity indicator Initial Comment: It would be nice to have an activity indicator for NTLMaps. Just a simple text throbber would be enough to show when request is being processed, when parent proxy is offline or there is no response from the server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=523935&aid=2445558&group_id=69259 |

Bugs item #1230725, was opened at 2005-06-30 23:38 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by mdomsch You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=523935&aid=1230725&group_id=69259 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Duplicate Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Barrie Treloar (barrie) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Transfer-Encoding: chunked not supported Initial Comment: If the remote server responds with "Transfer-Encoding: chunked" then NTLMAPS fails. Transfer-Encoding: chunked means there is no Content-Length header. See http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2616.html Section 3.6 Transfer Codings for more details. To see this problem in action: 1) Download TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/download.html) and install. 2) Make directory for Subversion, eg. C:\SVN 3) Right click C:\SVN and select "SVN Checkout..." 4) Set "URL of repository" to "http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/HACKING" and click "Ok". NOTE: This should fail as Subversion is not configured to use NTLMAPS yet. It is done here to force the creation of configuration files. 5) In "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Subversion" edit the "servers" file. Find the "[global]" section and add http-proxy-host and http-proxy-port to point to your NTLMAPS. eg: [global] # http-proxy-exceptions = *.exception.com, www.internal-site.org http-proxy-host = localhost http-proxy-port = 5865 6) Edit your NTLMAPS "server.cfg" file and in the "[DEBUG]" section turn on "DEBUG" and "BIN_DEBUG" by setting the value to 1. 7) Start NTLMAPS 8) Redo Steps 3 and 4. (This will hang because the response from the server has not been read correctly) 9) Kill NTLMAPS 10) Look in the log directory. You will notice output similar to the attached file "chunked-failed-logs.zip" How to Resolve: Implement "Transfer-Encoding: chunked " from http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2616.html I'll attempt to give this create a fix but I have never used python before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Matt Domsch (mdomsch) Date: 2008-10-22 23:12 Message: Duplicate of bug #1647195 which includes a (non-working) patch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=523935&aid=1230725&group_id=69259 |

Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: If the password is too long, NTLM APS didn't work! Initial Comment: if I set a following password:wwwwwwwwwww@123456, the NTLM APS didn't work! So what's the longest password? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Matt Domsch (mdomsch) Date: 2008-10-22 21:26 Message: The LanManager password is at most 14 bytes long. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Quadling (razorsedgeuk) Date: 2006-11-22 02:39 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=487909 Originator: NO http://davenport.sourceforge.net/ntlm.html [QUOTE]In the event that the user's password is longer than 15 characters, the host or domain controller will not store the LM hash for the user; the LM response cannot be used to authenticate the user in this case. A response is still generated and placed in the LM Response field, using a 16-byte null value (0x00000000000000000000000000000000) as the LM hash in the calculation. This value is ignored by the target.[QUOTE] So. Using an LM (LanManager) response is limited to a 15 character password (14 characters and a null probably). This is a limitation of LM, not the NTLM authentication proxy server. I suspect that if you where on window 9x, you couldn't have a password over 14 characters. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Quadling (razorsedgeuk) Date: 2006-11-22 02:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=487909 Originator: NO >From looking at the source (ntlm_procs.py - Lines 44 to 71), it seems that only the first 14 characters are used. This is a surprise to me and maybe a limitation of the LanManager part. The NT part is fine. In my server.cfg I have the following ... ==================[SNIP]========================= # These two options replace old FULL_NTLM option. # NTLM authentication consists virtually of two parts: LM and NT. Windows95/98 use # only LM part, WindowsNT/2000 can use NT and LM or just NT part. # Almost always using just LM part will be enough. I had several reports # about LM and NT requirement and no about just NT. # So try to setup 1, 1 only if you have enough reasons to do so and when you understand # what you are doing. # 0, 0 is an illegal combination # NOTE: if you change these options then you have to setup flag option accordingly. LM_PART:1 NT_PART:0 # Highly experimental option. See research.txt for details. # LM - 06820000 # NT - 05820000 # LM + NT - 07820000 NTLM_FLAGS: 06820000 ==================[SNIP]========================= If you are on Windows NT or greater (NT/2K/XP/2K3/etc), then try ... LM_PART:0 NT_PART:1 NTLM_FLAGS:05820000 If that doesn't work, then try ... LM_PART:1 NT_PART:1 NTLM_FLAGS:07820000 The NT part doesn't seem to have any limits on password length. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=523935&aid=1600922&group_id=69259 |

Because it installs as a service which auto-starts, so you don't need to have to remember to start ntlmaps before using your browser, and you also don't have a console window hanging around all the time. Thanks for pointing to cntlm, anonymous! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=523935&aid=1751114&group_id=69259 |
