Introduction
Welcome to the National Weatherization Training Program. The training system is easy to navigate and use. This course provides an overview of the features of the training system. The features of the training system you are using might differ slightly from this description.
Create a new Account
If you are using NTER for the first time, you should begin by creating an account. To start, click the create account button in the top right hand corner of the NTER homepage. When the page loads provide the following information:
First Name Provide your first name.
Last Name Provide your last name.
E-mail Type in your email address.
Organization Include the organization you are affiliated with (optional)
Password Your password can contain letters and numbers, and must be at least six characters long.
Retype Password Retype your password to confirm.
Personal Desktop
After logging into your account, you will have a Personal Desktop. The Personal Desktop acts as your personal NTER homepage, it provides a space where you can…
• Browse and select classes in the All Courses menu button.
(See Select a Class for more detailed instructions on finding and adding courses.)
• Search for items in the learning system.
• View and track the classes you are taking in the Overview tab.
• Create or update your Personal Profile.
• Send comments about the National Weatherization training platform and report errors with the Feedback tab.
Select a Course
You can browse or search for courses without being logged into NTER, but must be a logged on registered user to begin taking them.
- When you first login to the system, the Overview tab contains a welcome message and brief instructions about how to add a course to your Personal Desktop. Click on the All Courses option at the top of the Personal Desktop page.
- Identify the course you want to take.
- Click on the arrow next to Actions for the content area.
- Select Add to Desktop.
- Click on the Personal Desktop tab.
The course now appears in the Overview screen.
You can also search for classes using the search bar in the top right of the screen
Start a Course
- Click on the plus sign next to the course title to see all the learning modules for the course.
- Identify the learning module you want to take.
- Click on the arrow next to Actions and select Join.
The course will open in a new window.
Taking a Course
After you have logged on to NTER and started a class, take some time to familiarize yourself with the course’s layout. Here are a few tips and guidelines for using NTER’s various features, which will help you to learn the class’ information at your own rate. Sample completion times are provided for the courses you select to help you schedule your time.
To move from page to page, you'll use the Next and Prev. (previous) buttons located at the top right corner of the screen.
Try clicking on the Next button at the top of this page.
The rest of the information describes components of the user interface and how to use them to manage your courses.
Some classes have quizzes or imbedded questions designed to test your knowledge of the material. Follow the quiz’s instructions, and answer the questions provided.
Most courses require a passing grade to continue, and in most cases the quizzes can be repeated if the student does not achieve a passing grade.
Navigating Within NTER Courses
Once you are logged into NTER, and have selected a course, there is an easy navigation system that let’s you explore the modules or lessons. The sidebar can help you navigate within lessons and track your progress. When you finish a section, or would like to skip between sections, you can use the sidebar to navigate.
The sidebar will also show you your progress as you complete a course
• A green circle beside the lesson indicates that the lesson has been completed
• A yellow circle indicates that a lesson is in progress
• A white circle indicates that a lesson has not been started
Once you have completed all portions of the lesion you may close the course window, return to course page, and select a new learning module. Your progress should be tracked in the course overview.
