Am I upgrading or replacing?
Unfortunately we have not figured out a clean method to directly upgrade a NST 15 system to NST 16. We are planning on experimenting with using the Fedora 15 to Fedora 16 upgrade procedure (though there are a lot of warnings about that as well) and determine how well it works and whether or not it can be extended to include NST.
Our current technique for NST systems that we want to upgrade from one release to the next is:
{Plan on two partitons for NST OS installations (one for the current version and one for the next version).}
{Use the two OS partitions to ping-pong between as new releases come out.}
This allows us to carry /var (and /home) along between releases, and to refer back to the /etc setting from the prior release as we move to each new release.
