Smoldering Remains

Now that scenery doesn't look like I made it in Paint in 10 minutes... <whistles>... I've had time to work on useful things, like buildings to be eradicated. Since most buildings are rectangles, I'll be pumping these out when I feel like it. It takes about 3 minutes to make one.

The new thing here is that when you blow up a building (or a SiegeTank), there are smoldering remains. It really adds to the look. Before that, when you'd blow up a building, POOF! it was magically gone, with no hints of existance. Not anymore.... read more

NRX: Scenery Tiles reworked

All right. So, I finally got around to playing with PaintShop Pro 8, and I finally got to make some nice-looking tiles. So, what we have now are tiles made with:
1) More than 3 colors,
2) More detail than squares,
and 3) Really smooth transitions... sort of.

Anyway, these are just the Round 2 tiles. With my new-found power (bwhahahaha), I'll be making tiles more often... or YOU will and you will also send them to me (if you're really-really nice and want to help :).... read more

New in NRX: Scenery

Okay, after I implemented elevation, I added a new type of enemy: the building. He's vicious, believe me :)

Anyway, buildings make the game look A LOT better. Really.

But, when you blow them up, it looks drab again. I have to put in debris and stuff, but it's coming along.

Elevation has been added

Okay, in case you were wondering, before... now, any weapon could hit any enemy. That's just changed. Now, when it says Air-Air, it *means* it :-)

That's basically it, plus the mandatory new weapon for each release ;-)

Lack of updates <gomen>

Well, it has been a while. I spent the last-last week in Iowa for the OM competition (we lost). Then, I've been tied up with stupid little things that eat up all my time.

Anyway, there's not much. Shields are here to stay, though. There's a new enemy, take a look and laugh (he's on level 1).

I need some PICTURES of some ENEMIES, POWERUPS, et cetera, people! I don't have *that* much time to waste doing the artwork :)... read more

I hate arrays. (Again).

So, I've been fighting for weeks with this, and it was because I went out of bounds on an array... every .03 seconds :-)

That really stings.

But I found it, and it was that I was using the wrong constant for the array bound, and I think that I'll just cry on my keyboard until I pass out now.

PLEASE HELP

Okay, I'm really bugged here. I think that there has been a memory bug in here since... a LONG time ago, and now it's time to find it! Please, summon your powers and render me aid !!

NRX 05.07 and 2 new guns.

Well, I've started the fun work of dodging real work and adding guns.

There are two new ones this one. One is a slower, but more powerful EnergyBlaster. The other is a newer, meaner MIRV. So far, I have yet to give enemies a decent gun. Maybe next time.

NRX can now Save & Load games

(From the mailing list:)

Okay, Tae, this one's for you.

You can now load & save your game. It auto-saves after each level, so if you're dying and with no money, well, sorry. I modeled this (barely) after Metal Gear Solid.

That's about it. I'm laying some groundwork for stats & kill-counts and stuff.

So, this should keep you busy for a while.

Oh, and make the name unique when you play.

NRX 2003.05.04 released

Today, the map editor has been completed to my satisfaction. It does what it should, and I'm quite happy with that.

Using it, I've tweaked the levels a bit, so now they're somewhat based on "reality," instead of being "eye-balled" by me in Paint. :-)

The weapons have been changed a bit (some of them). The crest is ALMOST worth using. Be on the lookout for more toys soon, now that making maps is a joke (It used to be hard and test-consuming).... read more

Map Editor works.

It's nice to actually make something new that works in two days.

The result is the map editor, complete with fake Windows message boxes. Oh, yeah. What quality! What skill! Anyway, it works. At least I think that it works well.

There haven't been any gameplay changes as yet, but I have someone working on new maps & story lines now that he can actually MAKE a level.

Anyway, since I can't figure out how to make a decent mailing list, just e-mail "ssvegeta7@yahoo.com" (or tekkamanendless@sourceforge.net, I think...) with your e-mail address and I'll add you to the mailing list.... read more

NRX 2003.04.28 now has a cheap map editor !!

It does.

I've been working on it for two days, and I'm pretty sure that it works. Anyway, just for fun, level 10 was made with it. NOTE: You HAVE to use the batch file / command prompt command "level 10" to get to it. Have fun.

You can bet your L2 Cache that I'm back from the Crash

YEAH!! Back to SourceForge. Sorry, guys.

As promised, here's my newest update.

Oh, and if you EVER have a problem where Windows won't boot, give me a call.

Posted by Doug Manley 2003-04-26

Lack of updates gomen !!

Yeah, so I was defragging my C drive on Easter. It was a MESS. Then, I thought, "it's so close to not being terrible. I just need to do a boot-time defrag and I'll be set." So, after about 3 of these, it was getting there. After the fourth, my PC would not boot. Ouch.

So, I spent the next two days finding an old hard drive, installing a pirated version of XP Pro on it, and getting it to work. Then, I used it to look at my C drive as a secondary drive, and it found an error on "file 9." It fixed that, and then found an "oops" security attribute. This means that I forgot to upgrade Pro to the level that my Home was. So, Pro changed the security attributes on all the billion files on that drive, which took a few long hours, during which I cut the grass.... read more

NRX hell & Why arrays are evil

Oh, my god.

No, really. This has been the most terrible day of coding in a long while.

Okay, so I was in school, showing some guys NRX, and it turns out that in the Buy/Sell screen, the new Turreted guns were bugged. So, I was like: "Grrr, I'll fix that when I get home." The guys were too impressed to notice.
Then, one died a few times, but his weapons (stored) didn't get removed. Again: "Grrrrr." So, I went home, made a bookshelf, transferred my Clancy, BattleTech, WingCommander, Diablo, and Ender's Game books to that. What a nice day.... read more

Back to work

shibaraku desu ne...

I've been busy with OM and stuff this week. World Finals are in a few weeks, and we have to get some things done... like write a new play.
So, on that topic, our robot speaks with a random speech generator that I wrote. You can group words into folders (you have to record them with a WAV recorder). Then, you edit a file called "Sentences.txt" using the folder names. Run the program, and it spits out fun stuff.
Especially if you have some "interesting" words/phrases in there :)... read more

It works!! I knew that this was going to happen!!

Okay, well, dinner's ready. And SourceForge says not to put "!"s at the end of titles, but I put them there for a reason. Arg...

Get the patch for nrx_2003.03.07 if you get it. It used to be labeled "Buggy", but that's fixed (with the patch). And Duncan, I don't know, I'll think of something.

PARAPARA & GIRAGIRA

Fun words.

Anyway, I've put some quality time into NRX instead of spending it with people. First, you can Buy or Sell everything that you started with, and a few others. I added a new tile (trees), and then never really used it. So, bwaaaaaa.

I made it look prettier here and there because, if you didn't know it, the difference between a commercially good game and a bad on is only in aesthetics.... read more

It's almost Friday !!

It is! It's Wednesday night, and that means that tomorrow is Thursday, and that tomorrow's tomorrow is Friday!!

Okay, so I have to go, but right now I'm listening to Sakamoto Maaya's "kodoku." That song is amazing.

To a Mr. Duncan

Okay, we have another new release. This one is actually worth something (It's not useless).

Earlier today I had a special Duncan release, but it has since been removed. It is now updated and part of the normal releases.

It's kind of late, so I have to be going.

Happy Birthday, me, and a new release

Okay, there's another new release. Man, I really like SourceForge. I'm finally getting the hang of DOS FTP...

I finally added a "doc" just because I can. Basically, it tells you how to download NRX. Take a look.

I organized the releases a bit. Now, there's an nrx_media section for media, instead of me just copying last week's ones.

I have determined that I will never be able to be a chemist or a mathamatician, so computer programming looks better every day.... read more

Oops

Don't forget to add NRX.map1 to the Maps directory.

Cygwin

So, yeah, since I don't have a real page for NRX yet, I thought that it would be a good idea to at least use nrx.sourceforge.net to redirect to www.sourceforge.net/projects/nrx.

Easy, right. Write a 6-line php file. Wow.

Wow. Of course, SourceForge needs me to SSH the files for the web page to some long directory. Well, that shouldn't have been hard, except that I use Windows.

So, I needed Cygwin.... read more

New release

Hi, everyone. Okay, today we have a new release. This one is really special because I spent the WHOLE day fighting with C just to realize that I forgot to put in a stupid copy constructor.

One of the key things in the MainMenu class is being able to mess with the Choice class (of which there is an array in MainMenu). Anyway, Choices get passed all the time, and silly me, I thought that this would be a job for operator= Man. Well, apparently it wasn't, and I was OBVIOUSLY supposed to use the mysterious copy constructor.... read more

Moving to SourceForge.net

Hi, everyone. I finally got this thing rolling, and now it's on SourceForge. Right now, I don't think I need any help. Sorry.

I'm trying to settle in here. I'm still new to how to do a lot of things here, so we'll see how everything works out. For example... this webpage thing. How does that work?
