Looks okay to me. Might just be somewhere in the code that the version wasn't updated. Check out your copy of release.bat to see the current version. Hananiel Sarella wrote: > Subversion source code. Each of the things appearing in the tree right now is a separate run of a program from start to finish. Snapshots will be a given segment of a run starting and ending at a different time than the program's execution itself. This allows you to skip profiling the startup code of the application, for instance. The stuff serialized to disk is currently referred to as a project, with multiple project runs (I think). Hananiel, let me know if you have any questions pertaining to the use of JIRA, Confluence, Subversion (or any of the 3rd party tools involved in working with that; I can fully recommend AnkhSVN and TortoiseSVN as client tools). I registered at this new site. I dont have any rights though. Im working on providing copy to clipboard functionality and snapshot. I need a few details on this from the old developers. Hi All, I've added NProf projects to Confluence (the professional wiki) and JIRA (issue tracking). JIRA is available at: http://www.mertner.com/jira And you can also go directly to the NProf project in JIRA: http://www.mertner.com/jira/secure/BrowseProject.jspa?id=10030 Confluence organizes content in something called spaces. You can see a full list of spaces simply by going to: http://www.mertner.com/confluence The NProf space home page is located at: http://www.mertner.com/confluence/display/NProf/Home In order to create or edit pages you currently need to create an account. These are shared between JIRA and Confluence, but you must go to JIRA to create one. Once you've got a JIRA account you must send me your username so I can upgrade the account and assign permissions. There isn't much content yet, but editing pages is unbelievably easy and therefore doesn't take much time. Please go ahead and create your account now! Don't postpone it until later! :-) Also, if you are working on a development task, please use JIRA to create a corresponding issue as soon as your account has been upgraded to allow that. Yours, Morten |

Thanks to the generosity of Morten Mertner, nprof's source will be moving to a nice, shiny Subversion repository. I highly recommend the use of TortoiseSVN as a subversion client. Other SVN info is available on the confluence site here: http://www.mertner.com/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=49 Since the repository isn't linked to Sourceforge anymore, you'll need to send Morten your desired Subversion username and password. He'll set you up and you can start committing over there. I'll be shutting off the CVS server soon so that noone accidentally commits anything there. You can access the Subversion repository here: WebDAV browsing and normal repository access: http://www.mertner.com/svn/nprof/ FishEye (like ViewCVS-on-steroids): http://www.mertner.com/fisheye/ Note that we'll also be moving the nprof website and tracker over to his site as well. I'll send additional details as we get set up further. Matt. |

You can get a nightly tarball of nprof from here: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cvstarballs/nprof-cvsroot.tar.bz2 It looks like sourceforge posts these for all projects. Morten Mertner wrote: > Who is, if any, currently in charge of the project? That is, who > decides stuff like project roadmap, coding guidelines, web presence, > etc.? I'm still in charge right now, but I'm actively shopping around for someone to take over for the long term. I've had some interest from a couple of people, but I haven't had a chance to follow up with them to make sure they are still interested. For now, you can just ask me about those things. I'm not too picky about them right now - I'd prefer to find people interested in working on the project and let them decide how they would like to proceed. :) Until I find a permanent maintainer, I'll leave the project in a "free for all" state where developers can contribute the features they are looking for as necessary. We can work out a release policy later once we get some momentum. > Btw, you can check out the wiki/jira installations at > http://www.mertner.com/confluence and /jira respectively. Those look good to me. You can consider this the "go-ahead" to create pages for nprof. Once you've got it up and running, I'll redirect the nprof homepage to your confluence page and disable the bugtrackers. Send an announcement to this list with the links so people can check it out. Thanks for the whole hosting offering - I appreciate having someone set us up a more useful web presence! Matt. |

You need the CVS repository, not the working copy, which is what you are using. So you'd need access to the sourceforge server directly where the repository is hosted. I dunno if cvs has an option for copying the entire repository to another machine. Ashwin |

I've created a Subversion repository (available at www.mertner.com/svn/nprof/ using either http or https). I was unable to import the CVS repository using cvs2svn though. I checked out the repository from SF to . (so the current folder contains CVSROOT and nprof subfolders) and ran: $ cvs2svn -s /var/svn/nprof --existing-svnrepos --username=mm --dry-run . But this gave me: ----- pass 1 ----- Examining all CVS ',v' files... No RCS files found in your CVS Repository! Are you absolutely certain you are pointing cvs2svn at a CVS repository? If you've got any ideas as to what is wrong, let me know. I also setup a write account for you (login matt, password mwmi) in case you want to give it a try. Who is, if any, currently in charge of the project? That is, who decides stuff like project roadmap, coding guidelines, web presence, etc.? Btw, you can check out the wiki/jira installations at http://www.mertner.com/confluence and /jira respectively. Although I haven't setup the NProf sites there yet it will give you a feel of the what you may be saying yes to ;-) If you give me the go-ahead I'll create projects for NProf and add some content from the existing web site. Hi All, I've been craving a solution that would allow me to profile code based on my existing unit tests. Ideally I would like to see something that integrates nicely with MbUnit and TestDriven (the addin for Visual Studio for executing unit tests). I'm not currently familiar with the code of NProf, but would be willing to spend a fair amount of time trying to implement this if it is of any interest. Any starting points (stuff I should know that you can think of) that you can provide will be much appreciated. That said, I hope this project is still alive and well :) In case it is of interest I wouldn't mind providing a Subversion repository and/or FishEye repository browser (I already host these services for other OSS projects). I also have Confluence and JIRA at my disposal, however, that's likely only interesting if you'd want to give the NProf web presence an overhaul. Yours, Morten |

Hey guys, I've been letting this project stagnate too long and I would like to hand control of the reigns over to someone who might be interested in taking a project that's nearly ready for 1.0 all the way. I'm looking for someone who is willing to put out a release every few months, even if it's just for a small bugfix or two. They'd take control of the source, take patches from outsiders and grant commit rights to those who will help contribute as well. If I can't find a maintainer, I'd be willing to grant CVS commit rights to anyone who is willing to get their changes into the sourcecode right now. It's better to have some action on the project, even if there's no release in the near future. Anyone interested? Matt. |

Is the .net Framework 2.0 supported? I'm asking, because i can't profile my application, created with VS2005 Beta 2. Maybe it's a handling error by myself. So let me explain what i do. First i create a project and select in the dialog my application compiled in debug-configuration. then i select the working directory for my application (the folder that contains my compiled exe). After that i close the dialog (Create Project) and click on Project->Start Application Run. From that on the current state is the whole time "Initializing" and in the Message Box i can read "Waiting for application". But nothing more happens. The Application is at this time still running. When i click on "Stop Run" my application stops and in the message box i can read "shutting down profiler". Where can i look at the profiling results? Thanks, for any answer in advance. I am trying out NProf on a WSS site. Looks like a great tool however, after performing my first profile, the Application will not run. It just hangs. =20 I did not change from machine to system in the machine.config. Could that be the problem?? Jeff |

Hello, Thanks for creating an extremely useful tool. I'm sure you get a lot of requests for features so I'm not going to add to that. I only wish for a version that will run with the .NET Beta 2 framework. I'm not sure why it doesn't work. I wish I was a better coder and then I'd be able to modify the src code myself. I may give that a shot afterall. Thanks, Mike |

I'm in the process of building a house and it's sucking up all my extra time. I still have a few pending patches to merge, but I hope that I might eventually push out a 0.9.1 and (maybe) a 1.0. Hey: I've just downloaded and been playing around with nprof 0.9. I wanted to drop you guys a line and let you know how pleased I am to finally find a .NET profiler that doesn't suck. Having used both Purify and DevPartner Studio, both of which exert such a strong Heisenberg effect on my code as to render it unrunnable or useless, I was very excited to find a profiler that was light enough to be usable, and substantive enough to be useful. I hope nprof is still under active development. It would be nice to see actual times as well as percentages in the function lists, and I really hope nprof continues to work with with .NET 2.0 as well as it does with 1.1 Thanks for all your efforts, and keep it up!
