Currently this plugin works great and I really like it.
But it would be nice to see it evolve and become more robust.
Using NppMenuSearch version 0.8.0.21805
Using Notepad++ version 6.5.5
If I type "zoom" in the NppMenuSearch search bar,
I can click to execute a zoom command.
However, there are no results I can click that will open the Shortcut Mapper window & take me to the row where the zoom hotkeys are listed (even if ctrl+m is hit again to show all search results).
Even though I can see the registered hotkeys for the "Zoom In" and"Zoom Out" functions in the search result parenthesis, I cannot quickly navigate to the place where I can change that hotkey.
This is actually the primary use case I intended to use NppMenuSearch for when I installed it.
When using the NppMenuSearch search bar,
typing in any text from the Style Configurator menu
does not bring up a relevant search result.
For example:
Typing "Enable global foreground colour" yields no results from the Style Configurator.
Typing in "Font" yields no results at all.
At first glance, implementing support for the Style Configurator menu would not seem to save much time for the user, as the Style Configurator window itself can be opened relatively quickly:
[1] with two clicks (Settings -> Style Configurator)
[2] or with four keyboard strokes (alt, t, down, enter)
However from here, if you are using only the keyboard, you must continually tap TAB until you reach the menu item you desire to change.
Example, if upon opening the Style Configurator window the "Select theme :" drop-down box is selected, you must hit tab 16 times before "Enable global underline font style" is selected.
If NppMenuSearch were to implement support for opening the Style Configurator window and selecting the search result,
then I could simply type in "Enable global underline font style", select the search result in NppMenuSearch, then hit space. Much quicker.
Additionally, if NppMenuSearch were to search through the Style Configurator themes, it would save a lot of time when the user wishes to change color style or formatting style.
This would be useful if either
[1] theme support were implemented to change the theme directly from the NppMenuSearch search bar,
[2] or if it opened the Style Configurator and selected the theme from the "Select theme :" drop-down.
This plugin is already extremely useful, but I just wanted to point out some minor limitations and a direction for future extension.
Personally I think the addition of hotkey row navigation would be extremely useful and save many people a lot of time.
The added support for the Style Configurator menu would be nice for plugin completeness, but would probably be used by much fewer users than fast hotkey navigation.
Regardless of future implementations, I'd like to thank the author for writing this plugin =]
Hi,
thank you for your ideas. I have just implemented navigation to the Shortcut Mapper. Now the search results have a context menu. I will release a new version in the next few days.
About the style configurator: I am not so sure whether it is that easy and useful enough. So I cannot promise anything there at the moment.
