Is is safe to have known_hosts have unix line endings?

I'm trying to get down to one known_hosts on my system. Cygwin keeps this file as ~/.ssh/known_hosts (C:\Cygwin\<username>.ssh\known_hosts). NppFTP keeps this file in %appdata%\Notepad++\plugins\config\NppFTP\known_hosts. I have successfully linked the two, so I have one file with two names.
Will NppFTP continue to not add only a LF to lines (instead of CRLF), or is it working by accident?
The fact that it work is not entirely by accident as libssh2 is used, which uses a similar format. However, I dont know how well the CRLLF/LF interoperability is. YMMV.
