Forges and feats

Right, the project has seen some facelift with respect to its GUI and looks and some of the logic. It's basically back to normal as posted in the previous post but there's these amazing things about to make their entry: Forges.

Forges allow you to create your own content, such as magic weapon, magic armors/shield, races and classes. This is to enable more gameplay for you and to let you go on and create content that hopefully you'd share with the rest of us. So far forges for weapons, armors and shield have been finished and I'm going to start the other two soon. Hopefully you'll find this very useful.... read more

Way forward

In light of new development by Chris there are a few requirements I have to fulfil.

Firstly I have to provide him with a better understanding of what's happening when a user adds an action. A screenshot of the GUI with a bullet point description of the events that take place and the classes involved has been included in the CVS screenshot/ folder.

Secondly I need to make the system so that it can start without a GUI. This will be a flag that one can specify on command line. It shouldn't be to hard but is apparently something he need for tomcat war deployments.... read more

Back to where it was

This is a great day. Finally all the refactoring is done. All of the original functionality is present in the current newly checked in version in the CVS and that means from here on out it is only new additions to the functionality.

It's taken a lot of time because of the "Spagetthi Experiments" in the previous code, and because I moved around a lot, but finally the build is stable.

In addition it has gotten a very versatil effect compared to the old one, meaning adding spells will be a small feat. Speaking of feats, some bugs still exist in them so those need to be ironed out, as well as a few other bugs.... read more

Added a developer

A big welcome to Chris, a new developer that will be experimenting with how to expose the application to a thick client (JavaScript) through a web server (Jetty, Apache Tomcat or eXo) and possibly the usage of Web Services to accomplish this.

CVS back to normal

Ah, finally, the CVS repository is back to normal. Have a nice clean imported project with all of the newest source. If you've been following the project's development you should have noticed some poor implementations, such as the old Effect class. I did this intentionally as I was always wondering just how bad maintainability can be for a project. While being an apt learner I never imagined it was going to be such a headache. I have always thought through solutions but after this I am definatly going to think through the architecture before doing something. It became absolutley impossible to expand on: spaghetti control statements, local knowledge of other class structures, embedded/hard coded knowledge that needed touch up if anything happend.... read more

CVS problems

I'm having problems with accessing and managing CVS so I'll change to subversion to see if that will help. In the meantime the code resides on my local and backup disc. There won't be any new release out this month or the next because I am changing the Race implementation to being described by an XML format. This requires low level changed to how the logic works and is part of a series of changes to make the action framework more decoupled from _everything_, easily expandable and easily maintainable. So lots of changes taking place before any release can be provided :-)

Just started again

Hi all,

Just started working on the project again after nearly three quarters of a year of inactivity. I moved to Edinburgh and started in a new job so it took some time getting used to. I don't have as much time anymore but hopefully I'll manage to steady contribute to the project.

Project Start

Uploaded some screenshots of the woring version 3.01 and I am going to upload the code soon.

At the moment I am looking into how to improve the code that is already there; I will take use of the Singelton pattern in more than just a few classes and MVC will be better utilised with time. Hopefully the following functionality bits will be added soon: Auto generate a person from a template similar or identical to those found in Monsters Manual for 3.5. Walked indication. Disarm. Sneak attack.
