Should NOT not work for you, there are many reasons.

If it will not make more than one note, you should look type in the following commands:

options

and then an existing folder on your file system. The reason it errors is because it is trying to save to a non existant location. If you want to manually change the location, type in:

nano HOMEDIR/.notfile

into bash.
