This has been an ongoing problem for a long time now. Any time N++ wants to update itself it runs the installer without requesting elevated permission so it fails to write the files and I have to abort the installation and rerun as an administrator.
Most Windows program installers trigger the UAC prompt, but N++ simply tries to write the files without doing so which fails when using the default location.
