The "Remove Empty Lines" from "Edit" -> "Line Operations" doesn't use the selection but always uses the entire file. Seems like an easy fix, because 6.5.3 had a change to do something similar on the new introduced Line Sort.

I completely agree with your suggestion :-). This improvement shouldn't be very difficult to code, I suppose !
Indeed, generally speaking, the behaviour of ANY feature which aims to modify text, in an editor, whatever it is, should be :
If any normal selection ( and, even better, any rectangular selection ! ) exists, modifications are made on the strict selected text ONLY.
If NO selection exists, then, by default, modifications concern all the file contains.
Same issue with the Remove (useless) blanks.
