Cannot get the character w to enter while in block comments

Hello all:

I am new here so please excuse me if this has been answered multiple times. I did google this issue but did not find a fix.
When editing a .js file in notepad ++ I entered a block comment. When I tried to type the 'w' character as part of a word all I got was a 'v' character. Is there a problem or is it just a setting. I tried to resolve it with menu items but to no avail.

If you have plugins installed I'd suggest making sure its not one of those first. There should be a folder called "plugins" and just rename it to something like "_plugins" and restart Notepad++
