Notepad++ cannot get it to launch browsers to view files

Am teaching a basic web design class and students have an older version of NPP++ installed on the classroom computers. I was moved to a new laptop and had to install 6.5.3 and whereas previously I went to the Run menu and had a built-in list of installed browsers to launch and view the files in, none shows in the Run menu now. I tried going to the "custom" option and adding IE with the default keyboard shortcuts, but while it shows up in the menu list, it does not launch. Have found no solutions to this anywhere in the help thus far. Makes it extremely cumbersome to demonstrate in front of students when it doesn't work! Can anyone please help me sort this out? (I have uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted but nothing changes).

Did you open your shortuts.xml file and check whether the various Launch in ... commands are still there?
Also, do you have a doLocalConf.xml file along notepad++.exe? If so, the shotcuts.xml along notepad++.exe is active, else the one in %APPDATA.
