Run external tool on selected text, replace text with program's output

    I have some command line tools (code minifiers and beautifiers) which I want to integrate in Notepad++. These programs support STDIN and STDOUT. Basically, I'd like to do the following:

    • Select some text in Notepad++
    • Run external program on selected text (pass text as STDIN)
    • Replace the selected text with the program's output (STDOUT)

    I had a look at the NppExec plugin and read the manual, but as it appears, it does not what I want (it can't replace selected text with an external program's output). Also, there are no specific NPP plugins for the tools I want to use. Do you have any idea how I can do this?

    Plugins -> NppExec -> Help/Manual -> section 4.6.3. Processing & replacing the selection

    And 4.6.1. Applying external tool to selected text
    And 4.6.6. Grab Console output to new editor pane

    Thank you DV, I will check that out. I somehow missed this, because I apparently used an outdated manual version (it doesn't mention the sections you refer to).
