Hi
I try do compare two files, but i don't know how :(.
I'd opened its in two n++ panels, clicked compare - nothing, pressed alt+d - nothing, no messages, no compare, no information.
What i can do to compare text files, i've got n++ v.4.3, and 1.1 plugin.

i'm no programmer but it doesn't seem to be working well for me either.
i get "files match" message but it still beats me too.
i tried "clone to another view" but all changes occur simultaneously (not sure why that would be useful). i then tried to save cloned instance with new name and compare to old and still "files match" then deleted 2 lines from clone (with new name) and got "files match", saved clone, compare, "files match", added text to clone and saved, compared "files match".
seems i'll be using the default install since no plugin i tried today has worked (and i don't have the know-how to make them work)(BTW for those who may be wondering the spell-check was the only other plugin i tried but it is wayyyy over my head and after 30 minutes reading and trying it still did not work). i was hoping compare would be better but need more help in verrrry simplistic terms. Thanks to anyone that may want to field this :)

You need to have them displayed side by side or one above the other. To do that, right-click on one tab and choose "go to another view". Then the compare plugin works.
I am missing something as well, I have two documents open, on one I did the "Go to another view" Right now I have my two docs open side by side. Originally they were the same with the exception of some white space, it said "Files Match". OK, I can deal with that. Now I change one and run the compare again. Nothing seems to happen. Where am I supposed to see the differences?

"The new plugin will now compare the current two tabs if two panels aren't already open. And the "Files Match" bug has been fixed.
Hopefully this will make the plugin a lot more intuitive and as easy to use as you'd expect it to be :)"
Thanks, that's much better. There should be fewer queries about it now, and I can see Multi-view becoming more popular for general use too.
Thank you for including the ability to highlight where the changes are in each line too. But the highlighting is very faint - am I able to adjust this?
Also, if I have more than two tabs open, what determines which ones will be compared?

Hey spmfree you're not the only one :) I felt a little dumb there for a moment as well. But hey, I didn't even know there's a wiki up for notepad++ :D
But seriously, I think it's not .. totally obvious if you've never used Multiview before (and yes, even if you don't have a good reason for not using multiview already :p) The things is, there's no mention of multiview in the description of the plugin on the website (a least on the english-language part of it) and the plugin itself doesn't have a readme.txt :/
So tylandercasper, in case you're reading this: please add a little readme on usage to the dll zip file or better still, add a little "How to use.." menu item to the Compare plugin's sub-menu. Thanks :)

For more details about the second pane, see http://notepad-plus.wiki.sourceforge.net/Multi-ViewHowTo .
Excellent. thanks, the "go to another view" was apparently what i was missing :)

It doesnt work for me.
I have npp 4.3 and Compare plugin 1.1.
I got my two panels using the "go to another view" but still nothing happens when I invoke Compare (either fomr the menu or alt+D).
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
If one of the file only contains one line, it doesn't work, a little bug :)
