If I install either of these plugins, the notepad++ window does not open. However it is visible in the Windows Task Manager, so I assume it is running.

These plugins are known to have issues with network drives. Do you have any? Are you using the latest available versions of the plugins? PM lags a little behind sometimes.

No, I am not using any network drives. I tried installing them using the Plugin Manager. Where could I look for the most current versions?
I have a feeling you need to start a service for these to work - computer browser maybe, something "Server", something "CLient" - sorry I can't remember. Search the forums, and you'll find it.
Versions are posted on the Plugin Central NpWiki++ page as fast as I'm aware of them. I am not aware of any recett update, so PM may have them.
I have the same problem with those plugins and the only solution I have found is: use the SherloXplorer plugin.
