    i changed using from textpad to notepad++ and want to use notepad++ to create a readme.txt-file by a click on a button (on the buttonbar of Total Commander).

    With textpad it works with this:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\Textpad\textpad.exe

    param: %P_readme_.txt

    When i change the Command-line to the notepad.exe, it doesn't work - cause of the wrong parameter, which doesn't work with notepad++.

    -> What is be the correct parameter for notepad++ to create a named-file (readme.txt)?

    Big thx + regards

    What is %P? Is it something which Total Commander expands?

    If you start N++ with the path to a file, it will either open it or ask you to create it:

    C:\\path_to_npp\\notepad++.exe c:\\users\\andreas\\desktop\\readme.txt

    If you don't want to have the question, you can create a batch file which first creates the file and then opens it:

    echo. 2>c:\\users\\andreas\\desktop\\readme.txt
    C:\\path_to_npp\\notepad++.exe c:\\users\\andreas\\desktop\\readme.txt

    Hi Andreas,

    thank you for your answer and I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner (i didn't get an email - probably my fault not activated it).

    %P is a textpad-parameter.

    I'm not sure, if i explained the target of my question right:
    when i click on my button/link, i want to start n++ and to create a "_readme.txt" in the directory, which is in the active window in Total Commander - so not a specific/absolute directory, but in the active/relative directory.

    With your answer i get the easy solution what to add in TC:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe

    (empty/none, thats important)
