      Note that there are two Search and Replace options - ctrl+F and ctrl+R.

          There's no simple answer, unfortunately.

          There are two different search/replace commands (control+H and control+R) and both can be used with or without regex. In some of those 4 options, it can't be done.  For the others, some things work and some things don't.  That link explains what to do for each option.
