Keyboard to actually switch between files

Talking about F11 and F12 I have a question for you: lots of time I open 2
or 3 files to compare them. Sometimes more.

I've disabled F11 & F12 mapping because for me the popup list is intrusive:
if there is a keyboard mapping, I should not have to use the mouse to
select the file. In fact I want to use the keyboard.

So I want to "fast switch" between the files so I can see what is
different, ie. doing a fast compare by alternate flipping them shows what
    is different.

    Here is the issue: with F11/F12 disabled I cant perform fast switching;

If those keys are mapped, then there is a popup to pick the file from ..
that is not useful. (I am certain that some people got used to that)

So, can the "Switch to previous document" and "Switch to next document" be
    done only by a hotkey ? (f11: previous and F12:next ?)

By default Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab switches between documents much like Alt+Tab works in Windows (without the need for mouse input) and F11 and F12 are for fullscreen. From your explanation it sounds like you previously mapped this to F11 and F12 (if I'm understanding you correctly).

See a good explanation here if you want to remap different shortcut keys.

Hopefully I understood you correctly and that this helps :)

Thanks for putting up with my rant.

Yes, I did remap to use F11 and F12 (these are my equivalents to Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-shift-tab); and I think there is a bug when they are mapped to F11/F11 as the list cannot be select using Up/Down key and cannot be dismissed by the ESC key.

So I restored them to Ctrl-Tab, Ctrl-Shift-Tab, which I can live with temporarily: the behavior is quite annoying as the popup with the files in the editing ring show up everytime the hotkeys are pressed.

Instead it should be seamless like Firefox. When it has several tabs opened, you hit Ctrl-Tab, the next tabs just changes.... as smooth as Sade Abu singing :-)

If you go to Settings->Preferences... and select MISC. you can disable the MRU behavior and the pop-up will not show up. This will make Ctrl+Tab go to next document and Ctrl+Shift+Tab go to the previous instead of the most recently used (without the popup).

Ah, that's what happen when the right place is found :-)

Thanks a lot ! This is fantastic because I was able to remap them to my original F11/F12 keys.
