Possible bug in "Find In FIles"

  • Brandon Blackmoor

    I have found what I believe to be a bug in the "Find In Files" function, but I would like to see if someone else can confirm it to be so.

    I have 13 files, each with an identical section. All 13 files have exactly this same text, and each file has the exact same name (but each is located in a different directory). When I search for different parts of this text using "Find In Files", using the exact same settings, I get different results.

    "start popup login styles" == 13 results (expected)
    "F2F1ED" == 4 results (bug?)
    ".infoBox background" == 0 results (bug?)

    I am running Notepad++ as Administrator, and in each search, I am searching for ., in all subfolders, and using Search Mode "normal" (not extended or regex).

    I updated Notepad++ to the current version (6.3.3), but this made no difference.

    If someone can find a cause for this unexpected behaviour, I would very much like to know.

    --- identical section begins below this line ---
    * start popup login styles
    #mask {
        display: none;
        background: #000000;
        position: fixed;
        left: 0;
        top: 0;
        z-index: 10;
        width: 100%;
        height: 100%;
        opacity: 0.8;
        z-index: 999;
    .login_popup {
        display: none;
        background: #F2F1ED; /* .infoBox background */
    --- identical section ends above this line ---

    Also, in each case where "Find In Files" fails to find the text, if I open that file and then simply search for the text using "Find", Notepad++ finds the text as expected.

    I have discovered that this was user error. Sorry. :(
