I have: Preferences|New Documents|Encoding|UTF-8 without BOM & Apply to opened ANSI files Checked
However, when I open a "zero" byte file created in Windows 7 by right-clicking|New|Text Document
and when I open the newly created "zero" byte "New Text Document.txt" using Notepad++ v6.51, it is opened as an ANSI.
It seems Notepad++ has a bug somewhere, where I must add a byte or so to a text file before it will open the file as UTF-8 without BOM.
