Hi, Just from the start, NOS looks great, so thank you very much. My problem. I unplugged usb keyboard and network cable before booting, as instructed. It went through the setup perfectly, and came to the screen that asks if you want auto update--there was a cursor in the middle of the screen, so obviously I now plugged in my keyboard--it did not work at all, no keys nor trackpad got any reaction. I tried a different keyboard, but still nothing. I then decided to plug the network cable in so I could ssh and reboot--but there was no network connection, so I had to hard reboot(turned pi on and off) It booted again just fine, and I came to the same screen, and just to start decided to chose no, and change it later. I was able to type 2 letters of PassWord, and then the keyboard froze completely. I did ssh in (network was recognized this time) to reboot, but ssh froze, so again I had to hard restart. This time, it is stuck on the booting screen (the small raspberry screen came 1st, then the NOS sunset screen.)I hit ctrl alt f3 and the last line shown is [ok] setting up x socket directories.../tmp/ .x11-unix /tmp/ .ICE-unix.
So, at this point, I feel there is at least some problem related to the keyboard could you please tell me what to do? I am so looking forward to seeing NOS in action. If needed to know, I am using hdmi, a powered usb hub, and an approved power supply; I have also run other os's from this PI (with all same peripherals) with no problems, so I think the PI itself is fine. Thank you

    ps
on the last screen (the one after ctrl alt f3) I hit some keys on the keyboard and they work fine--so the keyboard is just hanging once the NOS desktop (with the auto update question) loads (at least on the 2nd boot up) also, I don't know if I corrupted the sd card by having to turn the PI on and off twice?

So the networking works meaning that the internal USB connection is working. What happens if you plug the keyboard directly into the Raspberry Pi. Will it work then?

If this doesn't fix it try holding shift down on boot (after rainbow screen) and it should come up with the installer. Tick the little checkbox and click install. If you leave your keyboard, mouse and network cable in during this install what happens afterwards?

Thank you for trying out nOS.

Hi again. Thank you. I plugged the keyboard and mouse directly into the PI (rather than thepowered hub), left the network cable attached and restarted the PI. I also did as you said in the sticky and held the shift down after the NOS rainbow (sunset) screen appeared and VOILA! NOS loaded up, the auto update window appeared--my keyboard and mouse worked, so I was able to get past it and to the desktop. I am in fact replying to you now from Iceweasel. So far it is faster than Raspbian I was using. Very nice. I will now start playing around with configuring and see what's in the repository. May I ask, is this what I must do everytime I turn the PI/NOS on--iow, must I have the keyboard only plugged in directly (not use the hub) and must I hit shift every time, or were these things just for initial load. Thanks very much-- GREAT os.

Continued from above. NOS was working great, so I chose configuration to input my timezone, keyboard type, and I like to use the modest OC. After my selections, it requested reboot (as normal) and There I go back to my problem. The first raspberry screen comes up (white background with choice to hit shift) then black background with small raspberry in corner, then Nos rainbow/sunset screen--then nothing--it goes to a black screen. I am now rebooting again and this time I did hit the shift on the 1st raspberry screen and am re-installing (previously I misunderstood about the shift--I did not re-install, apparently I just got lucky and everything worked that one time). So, now, after re-installing, it has frozen once again on the NOS rainbow/sunset screen. Escape and crtl alt f3 do nothing. The network cable is plugged in, but there is no connection to the network. If there are any other suggestions, please let me know. Thank you.
    ps
I tried one more time, did hard reboot (turned Pi on&off) but this time I unplugged the network cable 1st. Once again I reach the NOS sunset screen and it stops; this time crtl alt f3 worked and this time the last line is a fail. It says {fail} starting Network connection manager: wicd failed!

That is unusual. Can you try to reinstall again but this time format the SD card, and when you begin the install can you plug everything except the ethernet into the Pi. I have had this issue before on Raspbian and it appears to be an issue with power but because you are using a powered hub it probably isn't. What apparatus are you using to power the Pi itself (Kindle Charger, iPhone Charger etc.). Can you also let me know the model of the USB Hub you are using. Although you are using a powered hub there is still a chance the Pi doesn't have enough power to recognise the USB devices.

Here is the hardware I am using. (As mentioned I have run Raspbian, Openelec, Xbian, RetroPie, and Piplay with these hardware items and not had any problems. (Of course, these os's are are different sd cards) Later today, I will format again the sd card (I use SD Formatter, full erase), re-install, as you suggest, and let you know what happens.

Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card (TS16GSDHC10E)
USA Raspberry Pi Micro USB Power Supply Charger - 5v 1500ma --sold by The Pi hut
RASPBERRY PI MODEL B 756-8308 Raspberry Pi B
Rosewill 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Power Adapter (RHUB-210)
Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 with Built-In Multi-Touch Touchpad
Gtron USB SNES Classic Famicom Controller 9FT Cord for PC/MAC - PC Mac Linux

Note:my preference is using the Logitech wireless keyboard, but in my various attempts at NOS, I have been also used a wired usb keyboard and mouse on and off to see if it made a difference; also the Snes game pad has been plugged into the hub--I will unplug it on the next attempt. Will also mention on several attempts I had unplugged the powered hub, and plugged the wired keyboard and mouse in direct to the pi--did not seem to matter.
        Thanks. Will update later today.

Hi again, I formatted the sd card (full erase with sd formatter); extracted the NOS 0614 rpi zip onto the sd card. Unplugged network cable from Raspi. I have the hdmi cable plugged into the Raspi, the dongle for the wireless keyboard is plugged into the powered hub (I removed the snes gamepad for now) Put the newly wrirren sd card in and powered up. It did the usual things--resizing, extracting file system, etc while slideshow played. Then I come to the nOS screen (looks like sunset) and it stops; I let it sit quite a while, at least 10 or 15 minutes and still nothing except the nOS sunset screen. So I then pressed ctrl alt f3, nothing, pressed esc, nothing. It is totally stopped at the nOs sunset screen. It seems to be the same scenario as another poster, MIC, has.
I then did a hard reboot (turn pi off and on) network cable still unplugged. This time I hit ctrl alt f3 when the small raspberry appeared in the upper left corner--it flashed some text way too fast for me to read, just 3 or 4 lines, then went straight to the nOs sunset screen, and then that went to a totally black screen. Then I tried ctrl alt f3 and nothing happens, the screen stays black, pressed esc and nothing happens, screen stays black. I tried one more time, hard reboot, it loaded to the nOs screen, then went black, I waited just 30 seconds or so, and hit crtl alt f3---this time it went to a command line, asking for login and password; I put those in and it puts me at the prompt:
          pi@nos-raspberrypi:~$
Here, I typed startxfce4, but it returned fatal server error
server is already active for display 0
if this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/ .xo-lock and start again

          no protocol specified

          xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to x server: interrupted system call
          xnit: server error

then it puts me back at the command prompt

I don't know enough about Linux to do anything further.

And it seems each time I reboot, something different happens.
I am baffled because as you see in my previous posts, out of all my reboots and reformats, it actually worked perfectly ONE time; unfortunately during that session, I accessed configuration to set timezone and keyboard, and as soon as I rebooted from that, it has never worked again. Even with fully formatting sd card and extracting freshly onto the sd card.
Let me know any further steps. Thank you !!

Note: after above, I tried sudo halt to shut down and it gives some info, which I don't know if it would be of use to you. It does seem to mention errors, such as EOFError, and glibc detected startpar: corrupted double-linked list: 0X0041b200
aborted. I don't know if this is related to a failed halt request (&if so, why) or if it pertains to something else.
After this the command prompt no longer shows, so I turned off the power to the pi.
I don't know how to capture the lines shown other than with a photo, so if there may be anything of help there I could post the photo. I don't know how to post it here in the forum.

OK because of these errors I think that the SD card is corrupted. Can you try the NOOBS installer for raspbian on the same card and let me know how you get on.

You mentioned that you are using the other operating systems on other SD Cards. Is it a possibility that the one you are using for nOS is corrupt. I think that because after you formatted the SD card it continued to play up leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the SD card. I have many raspberry pi's, many SD cards, many charging devices and many USB peripherals and they all appear to work on a copy of nOS downloaded from the website.

I have now switched to a new Sandisk 8GB class 4 card. Never before used for anything. Did a quick format with sd formatter and extracted nOS zip onto it. With network cable unplugged, turned on the PI and it went thru the usual initial boot stuff. The nOS screen came up, then went black, then the desktop "kind of" appeared. I say that because it was only the task bar across the bottom, everything else was black. It did display the window asking for password to ok auto-update. Typed it, ok'd it and I am left with the black "desktop" with only the taskbar. So, from task bar I clicked start button, menu comes up fine, I chose Iceweasel just to see what would display --- the Iceweasel window opened full screen and then totally froze; the Iceweasel window is blank (of course network cable is not plugged in)but is is totally blank with only the title bar at top, and unfortunately, now the keyboard is completely frozen.
At this point, I don't know what else to try, so I guess will have to give up. Maybe will have better luck when you issue a new version. Thanks for all the help. btw, I tried the live cd 686 version on an old Gateway laptop (9 years old) and it ran so beautifully, I installed it to the hard drive. So count me as an nOS fan, for sure. I do wish it worked on my PI, though-it's much better than Raspbian, imho.

One more post <G> I rebooted the PI (Power off&on) and it hung on the nOS sunset screen. ctrl alt f3 worked and the last line is:

              Starting periodic command scheduler: cron

              then nothing.
I googled this and saw many comments about this cron process hanging during booting, but the details were all way over my head. One said ctrl c would kill cron,I tried that but it did nothing. Does this give you any clue as to what may be happening or causing a problem?
